If Phil announces Lost Odyssey 2 during the business update, all will be forgiven. Heck, even a remaster with some QOL improvements would also be fine. Please Phil, I don't ask for much...

Even I think that's too much =p.

Don't know if this was posted here. But at least from this source, the info they previously got about Starfield going to PS5 turned out to be innacurate.

Yeah, with 2nd and 3rd party games PS is doing just fine in terms of releases this year. But 1st party-wise, it's still a dry and barren year.

They did it to themselves with poor release planning, if you look at their 1st party quite alot of them released games from 2020 launch window-2022. That put them in a position of having a largely barren 2023 and 2024. Their release schedule should start to pick up somewhat in 2025 and then be very strong in 2026. These are their 1st party studios that could possibly have a game ready for release some time in 2024-2026:

  • Bend Studio- Worked on a Uncharted game with Naughty Dog through mid 2021, but then Bend asked to be removed from it and is working on a new IP open world game since June 2021. 2026 release with 5 years of development seems possible for a new IP
  • Bluepoint Games- Released Demon Souls remake in 2020, currently working on their 1st ever original IP ever since. Could release in 2025 or 2026 with 5-6 years of development.
  • Bungie- Marathon should release by 2025. They are also working on a Destiny-like MMO-lite codenamed Matter, which some documents from the FTC vs Microsoft court case revealed could be released in 2025, though it could also come later. Both will be multiplatform though due to Bungie negotiating for multiplat releases during acquisition talks.
  • Firewalk- Currently working on Concord, the multiplayer game announced on the PS Summer show last year
  • Guerilla Games- Unlikely they will have another big singleplayer game soon, but we know they are working on a Horizon multiplayer game which could release by 2026
  • Haven- Announced Fairgame$ at the PS Summer show last year
  • Insomniac Games- Based on their leaked roadmap, they will release Wolverine in Fall 2026
  • Sony London Studio- Working on a co-op MP action game set in a modern fantasy London, ever since Erica released in 2019, said to be their most ambitious game ever
  • San Diego Studio- Yearly MLB
  • Santa Monica Studio- It's rumored they have had a 2nd team working on a new IP since 2018 in pre-production with full development starting in 2021. Believed to be a sci-fi game, possibly a revival of the sci-fi game that SSM developed from 2011-2014 before it was cancelled in favor going all-in on GoW 2018. Could release in 2026 with 5 years of active development possibly
  • Sucker Punch- Tsushima released June 2020, I don't see why they won't have their next game out in 2025 or 2026
  • Team Asobi- Likely working on a new Astro game since the one that PS5 launched with in 2020

I hadn't heard that, but it makes sense, Bungie working on 3 games at once plus ongoing Destiny 2 expansions felt like a bit much considering their size. As of August 2023 they had an incubation project going that was a team based action game in a new sci-fi universe, so that new IP + Marathon + Matter + Destiny 2 expansions seemed a bit much to me.

I'm starting to become skeptical about Project Suerte with XGS still being in development. Certain Affinity is not that big, 215+ employees according to their website and over the last few years they have worked on:

  • Halo Tatanka Battle Royale- Rumored to be dead now, but their UE5 work on Tatanka seems to have become the foundation for the next-mainline Halo game that 343 is currently making, with Certain Affinity confirmed to still be assisting on it
  • Last Expedition- The PvPvE shooter that released in early access on PC in August
  • Project Loro- An original FPS developed by Certain Affinity, confirmed to have begun development in December 2022
  • Transformers Reactivate- Began development at Certain Affinity, before being passed to Splash Damage
  • Project Suerte- Leaked by Jez and Grubb independently from one another as an original IP Monster Hunter-like action game in January 2022, aiming for release in late 2023 or 2024 at the time of the report
  • Exodus- Co-development with Archetype Entertainment

Though they are no longer working on Last Expedition or Transformers, I just don't see how they have the staff to be working on Project Loro, Halo UE5, Project Suerte, and Exodus all at once, with 215+ employees. Suerte and Loro would both need large teams of probably at least 70 devs being original IP of at least AA scale. They probably have at least 50 on Halo UE5 assistance meanwhile since 343 is so understaffed right now in the wake of the firings. Then they have this team assisting on Exodus as well.

It could work if Loro and Halo are in pre-production, Exodus in early production and Suerte in late production.

We'll have to see, but going back and rereading Jez's January 2022 article he said that his sources told him Suerte was aiming for a 2023 reveal and a 2024 release, and it's now early 2024 and the game hasn't been announced yet, nor has there been a single leak about it since that Jez article 2 years ago. Considering that, and the fact that Certain Affinity would be stretched pretty thin working on 4 games at once with 215+ devs, I do have to wonder if Suerte got quietly cancelled at some point after Jez's January 2022 article.

They should just come out and do the "I'm not leaving" speech from The Wolf of Wall Street, and that should be it.
