For the first time in company history Microsoft is on track to overtake Sony in games revenue.

I was confused by the charts because it didn't add up even assuming H2 balloons.

  • Microsoft Gaming on average lately pulls around $15bn - $16bn a year.
  • Activision-Blizzard on average lately pulls around $7bn - $8bn a year.
  • Sony on average lately is doing around $25bn - $26bn a year.

But then saw this is for "Software Revenue" only.

Also it would only be for H1, MS Gaming + ABK won't be an exact 1+1 = 2 either.

So...Sony may still beat them in yearly revenue, Lol.

Microsoft Gaming best year was $16.22bn, Activision Blizzard's best year was $8.8bn, PlayStation's best year was $26.9bn.

Even if you added MS Gaming best year and ABK's best year, it would give a total of $25.02bn which is still below PlayStation's best year. Though MS Gaming even without ABK may have broken records this FY due to Starfield and ABK without MS Gaming may have broken their record with the combination of Diablo IV and MWIII but once you add them together there's double counting and Sony's continued growth.

It's going to be a tight race for a while yet, potentially flipping back and forth.

I think this chart is why Sony is trying so hard to beak into live service. 3 of that top 10 are Microsoft first party. Make no mistake, Sony makes good single player games, but those games ultimately have no cultural resonance or staying power, on top of being more expensive and less profitable.

Yeah, live service is a recurring revenue stream that isn't only for a few months of the year, they also tend to have better profit margins on them and both Microsoft and Sony need to increase their profit margins. Activision-Blizzard has a strong profit margin. It's no surprise at all why Sony is going so hard into live service even if some of their fans dislike it, I do think it's going to be incredibly hard for them to break into it though at this stage and multiple games will fail but to Sony it would be worth it if 4-5 completely fail but just 1 blows up.

Some great xbox hardware deals in The Netherlands.€415 for a Series X with Diablo 4. And €228 for a Series S.

I'm having a hard time buying anything right now. Aside from occasional Switch games I buy, most of my time is spent chipping away at the ever increasing backlog of Gamepass games. Sea of Stars has me hooked right now, and I have probably a half dozen or more downloaded from GP I plan to play next.

Probably nothing in the Black Friday deals, but will add Everspace 2 and Super Mario RPG (physicals) to my mountain of backlogs.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Super Mario RPG count? legit is probably the last game I buy this year lol.

I’ve been replaying the campaigns for Warcraft 3 and StarCraft 2. God damn they’re so good!

Damn wtf is this Nintendo thread, I'm out.

For me, Mario Wonder, Mario RPG, and maybe the golf game/soccer one.
