Breaking: New Zealand Commerce Commission has approved the Xbox Activision Blizzard merger.

Guess could not wait till UK?

Not yet, people either misread it or jumped the gun, they haven't publicly published their decision yet, it is meant to be done though by now.

Very confusing because some deleted their tweets so coudln't quote but then others posted one with a convincing article..

Not your fault, some jumped the gun for some reason.

Commerce Commission - Microsoft Corporation; Activision Blizzard Inc

This is where the decision is posted, the deadline was July 17th, it says the decision is completed but it's not public yet.

I am really disappointed with the console tier of gamepass and it is clear that Microsoft is trying to upsell as many people as possible into the ultimate tier.

I also think this subscription reshuffle is part of a broader initiative to get the last Xbox live gold holdouts to convert to gamepass. Not a bad idea, but I think a lot of them are going to stubbornly stick to the core tier if the console only tier is not going to offer multiplayer access

You have a point, like with Netflix, everyone bitched hard and...did absolutely nothing, Lol. It wouldn't have affected me on GPU though.

Could you not say though that now, those on Gold have "free" access to a cutdown version of Game Pass, only without the ads?

  • All Old 1st Party Titles (6+ Months Was the Original Rumour IIRC) + Ads
    Vs
  • Some 1st Party Titles (Unknown Timeframe) + No Ads.

Depending on what other titles are added, it might be close enough. We need to learn more about the timeframe and what titles are included and why.

Yeah true, it's not a bad thing overall, it's still better than what it is now, I just think it's a missed opportunity to do a touch better by streamlining their offering.

Mainly doing away with annual pricing and setting the monthly price to 5.99 (which should still bring more revenue than with annual pricing who the f*** pays for gold on a monthly basis lol.) yet it would still create a proper gap between this core service and standard Game Pass to also include Live service in the standard.

You would have a very clear progression between the different tiers instead of backtracking some value and gaining others by upgrading.

If they plan to regularly rotate the games available on Game Pass Core it honestly seems like an incentive to just stay on that, or downgrade from Ultimate if you're only on console; if you're still paying for online I'd assume you must be using it regularly, in which case you're probably sinking most of your time into one or two online games at a time, so how many Game Pass games are you really finishing and how many did you truly want to play. At least with a smaller rotating list you'll have a clearer idea how many you want or need to play and the pricing is more sensible.

On the flip-side, how many people are paying for the game catalogue but obviously won't have the time to properly commit to any online game/service.

The whole value prospect of Ultimate is intended for Console+PC, so unless you're in that camp it'd be a good chance to consider what services are really necessary for you. Or you can just switch between GP Core and GP Console based on what you currently want to play.

If people just keep over-paying for services they don't use, it'll only make companies think they can keep getting away with offering worse value.

With the XBox Live Gold rebranding, everyone's missing the real question here.... Will I still be able redeem 3 months of GP Core for 20k points and then convert it with a month of GPU? I haven't spent a cent for GPU in years thanks to this method of rewards redemption.

Introducing Xbox Game Pass Core, Coming This September

Today, we’re continuing our commitment to give players more choice and value by introducing Xbox Game Pass Core, launching on September 14. Game Pass Core is the evolution of Xbox Live Gold. Game Pass Core will give players access to our advanced multiplayer network, a select collection of over 25 games to play with friends around the world, and exclusive member deals, all for $9.99 USD per month or $59.99 USD per year.

For over twenty years, Xbox players have been connecting via Xbox Live to compete, cooperate, and experience the world’s biggest online multiplayer games. In 2017, we introduced Xbox Game Pass which provided a curated library of games. Game Pass Core brings online play together with Game Pass in a new offering for gamers around the world.

With this evolution, we’re saying farewell to Games with Gold. We wanted to use this opportunity to re-imagine how to include content with this subscription. We found that the answer to the most compelling catalog was to leverage select titles from our Xbox Game Pass catalog.

Our launch collection of more than 25 titles from Xbox Game Studios, Bethesda, and our content partners will offer something for everyone to play on their Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles. Today we’re confirming the following titles for launch*, with more to be announced in advance of September 14. New titles will be added 2-3 times a year.

  • Among Us
  • Descenders
  • Dishonored 2
  • Doom Eternal
  • Fable Anniversary
  • Fallout 4
  • Fallout 76
  • Forza Horizon 4
  • Gears 5
  • Grounded
  • Halo 5: Guardians
  • Halo Wars 2
  • Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice
  • Human Fall Flat
  • Inside
  • Ori & The Will of the Wisps
  • Psychonauts 2
  • State of Decay 2
  • The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited

*Game library may vary over time and by country.

For current Xbox Live Gold members:

  • On September 14, Xbox Live Gold members will automatically become Game Pass Core members, with no change in pricing, and have immediate access to a new library of over 25 high-quality games.
  • Member deals & discounts will also be part of Xbox Game Pass Core.
  • Games with Gold will come to an end on September 1.
  • Players can continue to access any Xbox One games they previously redeemed through Games with Gold if they remain a Game Pass Core or Game Pass Ultimate member.
  • Regardless of subscription status, any Xbox 360 titles redeemed via Games with Gold in the past will be kept in a player’s library.

Thank you to everyone who has been with us since the early days, joined along the way with friends, and now with us in Xbox Game Pass. I’m proud and humbled by the stories we hear about online teammates becoming real-life friends after years playing, or even marriages whose initial spark was ignited in a pre-match lobby. We can’t wait to hear more from the community when it launches on September 14, and we’ll see you online!
