This is amazing.
Phil Spencer is educating the FTC lawyer on acquisition finances, the Federal Trade Commission.
He had to go back and ask his colleagues.

The FTC is again wasting time, and Judge Corley again--at 2:42 PM--approved a pro hac vice (admission of attorney to proceedings) motion while the FTC was quizzing Phil Spencer.

After Phil Spencer confirmed that exclusive deals with 3rd-party publishers are more expensive for Xbox due to market share (compensating publishers for skipping a platform), Weingarten suggested it was contradictory to then pay $70B for Activision.

Apples to oranges!

Now Judge Corley is also tired of the FTC*s unreasonableness and stupidities;

When the FTC lawyer wanted Phil Spencer to also make a commitment under oath for making games available on the cloud, she cut it off by saying she doesn*t need that.
FTC on the wrong track!

I can't believe that Phil just spent 10 minutes educating a fucking lawyer on how finances in relation to acquisitions work so much so that he had to ask his colleagues then stop the line of questioning.
FTC's lawyer was legit one of those people who think when you spend $70bn then you have to make $70bn back, JFC.
This was so fucking amateurish...This is basic shit, I even know that an acquisition is a transference, Microsoft hasn't lost $70bn, they've turned $70bn into pure assets in the business.
Last edited by Ryuu96 - on 23 June 2023I think Judge Corley is getting fed up with the FTC's line of questions here. That's twice she's cut in to shut questions down

Now the FTC asks if Spencer can make the same commitment re. COD under oath with respect to Cloud.

Judge – "I don’t need that, I’m going to cut off your questioning."

I'll be honest, I didn't think of it like that, so that was more impressive to me tbh

I'm still salty that Stadia got Ys and Trails of on that trash platform, but Xbox STILL hasn't.

FTC sounds like they're as good at talking about the games industry as I am at playing Souls.

Bad. Real bad. Embarrassingly so.
There is an audible "ooof" from a few members of the audience. MS has no further questions, so we are done with Spencer.

Don't expect regular people to think of it like that.
I expect the lawyer of the Federal Trade Commission to know that though.
That was the most embarrassing shit I've heard from a lawyer.
Phil did a brilliant job.
That FTC lawyer needs to be benched, Microsoft lawyer dismantled pretty much all his arguments then he got snippy and frustrated the judge, twice, Lol.
