Forums - Nintendo - Okami Wii sells nearly 50k in four days. Not too shabby.

When did this conversation shift from Okami to the Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger series? 0.o

It was post 51, by words of wisdom

Games that were amazing graphics-wise in their day usually age very badly because graphic technology will pass them by and nothing will keep them going.  Meanwhile, games that focus on great gameplay will live on long after their time comes and goes.

An okay (by no means the best) example of the former is FF7.

A great example of the latter is Tetris.

And of course some users jumped on the flame bait, and this turned into the typical FF7 vs FF6 vs CT debate.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

And I'd have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids that meddling LordTheNightKnight.

Seriously though, next time I'll just look for a better example that won't derail a thread.

Are we still talking about Okami? Because that's a pretty crappy first week.

finally someone sees the light.

I could give reasons for it, but everyone is talking about Final Fantasy so I see no need too. I guess I'll let people believe that it's a good opening when it's clearly not. After all, Okami is only a port, it's not supposed to sell well, right? Oh wait (looks at RE4).

RE4 Wii had an NA debut of 90k. If Okami Wii continues to sell half as much as RE4 Wii, it will handily outsell the PS2 release.

Edit: And the only way to avoid being told two different things is to only listen to one person.

True, but then I have to bring up a point that contradicts my earlier one (man, sometimes I just suck!) which is that despite being a port, RE4 is a very popular franchise, belongs to a popular genre, and filled a gap that Wii owners really needed.

Anyways, I'd love to see Okami Wii do well and see good sales. The game, however, was ruined by the fact that Nintendo fanboys have to triumph the game as the reason that the userbase of their system has the best taste in games and buys niche games.

Just let the game sell well people, and stop being proud that the Wii can pull off better graphics than the PS2. I am far from impressed.

That's my little rant, and you now know my true reason for not being too fond of the Wii port. Dang fanboys. You finally know that you ruined it for me. Shame on you guys.

I can see my work here is done.  ^_^

PS:  Cheer up Montana, Okami is Okami no matter what people or sales say.

You actually listened to those people? Most of the reasonable Nintendo fans have just stated they merely hope the game sells well, and that it will prove that the Wii can sell 3rd-party games, even those that weren't hits before.

The problem is that this game could have been an example that good games will sell well on the Wii.  In reality, all it's going to do is become more ammo for the "Only party games and the like sell on the Wii" argument if its sales don't pick up.  Expectations were a bit high for some people I imagine.

I think VGC should form a board and classify a game if its AAA or not... and also put in average ratings by VGC users. That should be a nice idea.

It's about legs, not picking up. And of course the game won't stop the arguments. The point was to convince developers.

Legs don't matter if the horse has a brain tumor and dies at the start of the race.  I'm not saying it won't have good legs, but that's definitely not a hopeful start.

And developers are people too you know.  Well... except twesterm.

The point is that this week is too soon to tell. Duh.
