The fact that Ukraine even just still exists disproves the narrative already. Because if it were true, they would have long beaten Ukraine by now, even with western help. In fact, they would have beaten Ukraine before much western help could have arrived in the first place. That they didn't just shows that the Russian army is a paper Tiger and too weak and too corrupt to win wars anymore, even against foes that were already on their knees.
