Agnieszka Brugger from the Greens party, said she believes it would be best to "deploy air defence systems on the borders of countries [that border Ukraine] so that they could also protect Ukraine’s western regions."

Anton Hofreiter, also from the Greens, said that the possibility that Ukraine’s airspace will be protected by systems located "on the territory of Poland and Romania should not be ruled out in the long run".

Meanwhile, Free Democrats’ Marcus Faber said that the number of air defence systems and missiles is already limited, which is why he believes it is important to ensure there are enough of them in the long term.

"Under those circumstances, I think it would be possible [to deploy Western air defence systems to protect the sky over Ukraine]," he said.

Roderich Kiesewetter of the opposition Christian Democratic Union (CDU) party also spoke in favour of NATO forces shooting down Russian drones over Ukraine.

"This will ease the burden on the Ukrainian air defence and allow it to protect the front," Kiesewetter said.

He mentioned the example of Israel, which in April was assisted by the US, France and the UK to repel an aerial attack by Iran and its proxies.

Kiesewetter said this showed that countries that provide assistance under such circumstances do not automatically become parties to the conflict.

FAZ reported that the idea to shoot down Russian drones over the west of Ukraine with NATO air defence systems based in Romania and Poland was first put forward by Nico Lange, an expert at the Munich Security Conference, and Lieutenant General Horst-Heinrich Braus, former Assistant Secretary General of the Alliance.

Setting the stage while Western Europe sleeps.

Read something on reddit which was concerning.

  1. Baltic countries (and now Poland) started working on defensive line along Russian and Belarus borders

  2. France started openly speaking about sending troops to Ukraine for "training" (that's how US started sending troops to Vietnam, and how Russia started sending troops to Korea)

  3. And now Germany wants to conscript EVERY kid from high school, both men and women.

  4. House Speaker Mike Johnson suddenly risked his career to send $61 billion in aid to Ukraine.

Clearly something has changed in the past few months. Even Japan/Korea have been more open about their anti Russia stance recently.

About 3: it was a normal procedure until 2011 that we took part in the "Wehrdienst" after school. Now people go crazy because we would go back to something which was standard just 13 years ago? And it's not only about Russia, Germany's Bundeswehr just got much weaker over the years and there clearly needs to be done something. As example two of my brothers ended as "professional soldiers" just because of this mendatory Wehrdienst after school which showed them that this is something they want to do as job. They probably would have never started a career as full time soldiers if there wouldn't have been the Wehrdienst to show them that this is something for them.

And it won't be mendatory for every kid from man to woman to go to the Bundeswehr. The alternative would be to help as example in a retirement home, workshop for disabled, hospital and so on...also something which was standard in Germany just 13 years ago

There are btw three models right now and the favored one excludes woman except those who sign up by their own.

Baltic Countries and Poland have to prepare fortifications because they can't rely on western Europe to help them. France talking about sending troops was immediately shot down by Germany, US, UK, etc. France won't do it alone. Think some politicians in the West are just realising that Ukraine could lose the war and prepare for what is next, Russia is in a war economy now, they won't stop with Ukraine.

At least Ukraine will have died for us to weaken Russia though (massive sarcasm) because we couldn't step up and do the right thing at the right time. Western Europe/America will never step up, it makes them too uncomfortable, can't sleep at night in their million dollar homes, Moldova will be next to die on our behalf.

I assume Vovchansk is largely being artillery bombarded by Russian equipment across the border which really goes to show how utterly fucking braindead some countries are with their "Ukraine can't use our weapons on Russian soil"

"Oh, I'm over the border! Can't shoot me with HIMARS now!"

Yeah, imagine you are Russia and you are like "we can place hundreds of artillery equipment around Ukraine and all we have to fear is drones from Ukraine" while Ukraine knows that they will get bombed everywhere on their site and can only shoot back if the Russian dude will cross the boarder... has to be horrible for those soldiers to be so helpless and Russia could have lost already thousands more of their equipment if Ukraine could just do more with what they get.
