Israel hit Iran with a 1/2 ton supersonic 'Rampage' missile, report says

  • Israel used a "Rampage" missile in its strike on Iran, Israeli media reported.

  • The supersonic missile is designed to strike ground targets such as military bases.

  • Its manufacturer describes it as "a long-range, air-to-ground" missile.

The Rampage missile was designed by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for use against targets such as "communication and command centers, air forces bases, maintenance centers and infrastructure," according to the company's website.

The company describes the missile, which weighs 1,250 pounds, as "a long-range, air-to-ground, seekerless, precision strike weapon."

It has the ability to fly at 1,250 mph with a range of up to 190 miles.

It can be fired from an aircraft or as a stand-alone system and uses GPS/INS guidance navigation and anti-jamming capabilities, it adds.

The Rampage is considered an economical alternative costing hundreds of thousands of dollars versus the $3 million cost of each Storm Shadow, reported The National.

They should but they won't, too afraid of upsetting Russia while Russia supplies Iran with technology and economic assistance which is used to attack Israel, Lol. I don't expect Israel to ever give Ukraine anything worthwhile.

In some respects, the west is facing objective difficulty. It took Europe and the US almost two years to wake up to the fact that this would be a long war and that delivering part of their old weapon stocks would be insufficient. For two years (and more), Russia has put its economy on a war footing, while acquiring weapons from North Korea and Iran. The discrepancy in the ratios of artillery and ammunition are a reflection of this. Belatedly, the realisation of a long war has dawned on the west, and arms production is being ramped up: by next year, European governments should be able to compensate for some of the current mismatch. This is why Ukrainians perceive the coming months as their greatest window of vulnerability, perhaps greater than the first dramatic weeks after 24 February 2022.

But in other respects, European countries (and the US) have no excuses. Paradoxically, while lacking enough basic artillery and ammunition, Europe has no shortage of sophisticated air defence systems. There are approximately 100 such systems across Europe collecting dust. Important as the defence goal of deterring some future Russian aggression may be, the European continent is already at war. If European air defence systems continue lying around rather than being provided to Kyiv to save lives in Ukraine, they may end up being needed where they are currently stationed, turning the reasons against their transfer to Ukraine into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

The missing American who’d traveled to Ukraine years ago to aid Russian separatists in Donbas was found dead in the country’s war-torn eastern region. The body of Russell Bentley, a 64-year-old U.S. Army vet, was recovered in the Russian-controlled region of Donetsk Oblast, Reuters reported. Between 2014 and 2017, Bentley — a self-proclaimed communist from Austin, Texas — fought alongside pro-Russian separatists in Ukraine.

Conflicting reports suggest Bentley was abducted by Russian soldiers and killed, possibly because they thought he was an American spy. On social media, unsubstantiated claims circulated saying Bentley was raped prior to his murder, and was either shot eight times in the head or decapitated. Bentley is said to have vanished while helping the victims of a Ukrainian strike on Donetsk.

Police in Donetsk said on 8 April that Bentley had gone missing after going to help victims of a Ukrainian strike on Donetsk. On a Telegram channel previously run by him, Bentley’s wife, Lyudmila, said he had been “abducted” by Russian soldiers from a tank battalion, and called on them to let him go.
