Everyday I read this thread I wait to see what new deadline line is set. I guess he finally picked one that is impossible for EU to get to fast.

Some updates from the UNGA session today

Trump says he thought his relationship with Putin would have helped end the war

Trump has invoked the situation in Ukraine several times now. He noted that he thought it would be easier to end the war than it has proved to be because his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin “had always been a good one”.

He said Russia’s war in Ukraine is “not making Russia look good”.

Later, he excoriated EU nations for continuing to buy Russian oil and gas although most have made an effort to shift their reliance away from Russia.

Trump and Zelenskyy hold a sidelines meeting

The two leaders held a brief meeting in front of reporters on the sidelines of the General Debate.

Trump said the Ukrainian leader was putting up “one hell of a fight” and that they would “see how that all turns out”, before noting the US was holding about 30 such meetings.

Zelenskyy started by thanking Trump for his efforts to support Ukraine and bring an end to the war. He said he and Trump would discuss security guarantees and would brief the US president on the ongoing situation on the battlefield.

Trump, for his part, said he supported NATO countries shooting down Russian aircraft making incursions on their airspace – an increasing problem for EU countries.

“Yes I do,” Trump told reporters when asked about whether he would support the move.

Asked if the US would help them out in that situation, he said it “depends on the circumstances”.

Trump then commended NATO for stepping up their defence spending contributions.

Ukraine can win back lost territory: Trump

Trump said he believes that Ukraine, with the support of the European Union and NATO, can win back all of the territory Russia has taken since its invasion.

In a post on his Truth Social platform following a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York, Trump also said he would continue to supply weapons to NATO “for NATO to do what they want with them.”

Lithuanian president warns against repeating the ‘appeasement’ mistake that led to WWII

Lithuania President Gitanas Nauseda is speaking now – the first EU leader to address the General Debate.

Much of his speech has been focused on Russian aggression and the need for a comprehensive, powerful global response.

“We cannot ignore the striking parallels between the present day and the events of 1938 – a time when the world chose appeasement over international law and diplomacy over deterrence, culminating in the infamous Munich Pact.”

The Munich Pact or Munich agreement was a settlement between Germany, the UK, Italy and France, allowing Hitler to annex territory in Czechoslovakia that was populated by an ethnic German population.

“That was a short-sighted attempt to satisfy a dangerous revisionist aggressor by giving away the territory of a sovereign nation. It proved to be a complete failure,” he noted.

Western countries issue statement of support for Ukraine, without US

Top diplomats from countries across the West have issued a statement stressing political, military and economic support for Ukraine as it fends off the Russian invasion.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, flanked by his regional counterparts, read out parts the statement to reporters at the UN Security Council.

“Together, we urge all the other partners to use their influence and maximise pressure on Russia to immediately end this war and work towards a just and lasting peace,” it said.

“We remain in unwavering support of Ukraine.”

The statement called on Moscow to enter into “meaningful negotiations” with Kyiv.

It was backed by 23 countries, including France, Germany, the UK and Canada. But the US did not sign onto it.

Then he should sell 1000 M2 Bradleys to NATO countries as a start !!!!

Russia controls about 18% of Ukraine today.

If Ukraine started taking back some of their territory, Russia would call for a ceasefire, call for an end to the war.

It's that simple.

Putin doesn't care about how many troops he lost, he doesn't care about how many APCs and tanks he lost.

He ONLY cares about how much of Ukraine he controls - and he controls about 18% of it.

Ukraine, Syria restore diplomatic ties after breakdown during Assad regime

Ukraine and Syria have formally restored diplomatic relations as their leaders met on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said following his meeting with Syrian interim President Ahmed al-Sharaa.

Syria’s Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani, along with an accompanying delegation, also attended the meeting on Wednesday in New York, the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a brief statement.

Ukraine broke off relations with Syria in 2022 after the government of the country’s former ruler, Bashar al-Assad, moved to recognise the “independence” of the Russian-backed breakaway republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine. Shortly after, Syria announced it would break ties with Kyiv.

Zelenskyy said Ukraine and Syria signed a communique on the restoration of their diplomatic relations.

“We welcome this important step and are ready to support the Syrian people on their path to stability,” the Ukrainian leader wrote on X.

“During our negotiations with the President of Syria Ahmed al-Sharaa, we also discussed in detail promising sectors for developing cooperation, security threats faced by both countries, and the importance of countering them,” Zelenskyy said.

Putin won't be happy, good. Russia gtfo of Syria

They will probably send their old M113 first. Apparently the US have around 8000 of them in reserve, so Ukraine could be a good way for the US to get rid of them, especially since they finally have a successor coming with the AMPV. While the US also have about 2800 Bradleys in storage (2000 M2 and 800 M3), I believe someone like Trump would want to make a quick buck on the M113 first rather than send the more modern stuff.

Also, I'm sure they'd love to sell (or even just send as a donation) some of their old Humvees, as the US has a staggering 125000 of them and are all set to get replaced.

Finally, the US are currently trying to divest from their large stock of MRAPs, by the tune of 7800 7400 vehicles. These certainly would be more of a priority for the US to send to Ukraine as unlike the other mentioned vehicles these are not planned to go to storage. Buffalo, Cougar and the South African MRAPs RG 31/33 will be mostly axed and thus prime for delivery to Ukraine.

Tl;dr: There are many vehicles the US will probably send first in larger numbers than the Bradley, mostly vehicles that are getting axed because of age or change in doctrine. So I wouldn't hold my breath for large shipments of Bradleys anytime soon.

Edit: corrected the number of MRAPs

About 3000 russians are circled in the pokrovosk area.  I knew that it was a large number but didn't think it was this big.

Ukraine confirms drone strike on one of southern Russia's largest oil refineries, vows to continue attacks.

Ukraine has destroyed 20 or 30% of russia's refinery capacity without the missles. But now that the flamingo is made then this number could go up to 60% in the coming months and probably even higher after that.
