Been looking up guides and adding friends and nobody seems to know. My friends are trying to get me to play this game and it looks fun enough as far as the core gameplay loop is concerned, but I have a pretty nasty aversion to games that don't end or have a hard goal or quest.
I don't play Free 2 Play games or mobile games because most of them are just repetitive.
I don't play games like monster Hunter because the gameplay loop is just 'kill monsters, get parts, upgrade weapons to kill stronger monsters and getting stronger parts'. I get the impression this game is kind of like that, in this regard. I'm not putting it down, I absolutely do feel there's a place out there for all manner of games! IT looks like a good game!
I just want to know if it's the kind of game I fear it is or if I'm potentially missing something. Like, I heard there are boss battles but is there a story? Is it just an endless loop of getting ore and materials, levelling up and making better tools, to then get better ore and better materials to get even better tools?
Honestly, I just don't want to get involved if that's all it is and I want to be respectful to my friends that do play it.

All you need to know is:

But in all seriousness, DRG is basically a game where you and 3 other teammates take on assignments from the corp to go into randomly generated planets/asteroids to mine resources, both for yourself and the corp.
You use whatever resources you mined that are left over for upgrading your own weapons and equipment, as well as meeting stretch goals to unlock new weapons/equipment and achievements.
That's basically the entirety of DRG, you mine, you upgrade, you complete assignments and have fun killing bugs, that's all there is to it.
If you want specific class guides, Steam forums has a list of class guides in the guides section that are handy and easily accessible via both the Steam client and the web. The official DRG wiki also has details on the weapons/equipment and bugs, as well as weaknesses that the bugs have and what each piece of equipment/weapon/upgrade does.
If you're looking for an end-goal/story, this game doesn't really contain one, besides unlocking harder difficulties/assignments and reaching hard tier stretch goals. The game itself doesn't really contain a story like most co-op games/SP ones do, because all you're doing is working for a corp in space and mining endlessly.
Personally I love the game, simply because it's a bit like L4D meets starship troopers, meets Minecraft (and I also dig the art style and banter between the dwarves).
