Forums - General - Any classical music fans? What's your favorite orchestra!

Mine's the CSO! (Chicago Symphony Orchestra)

Other than perhaps the LSO, I'd say the CSO is damn near the best orchestra in the world...I love going to hear some good music...I typically go in the summer a few times.

I really want to go to the Berlioz: Symphonie Fantastique this week...such a beautiful, imaginative piece. But it's almost all sold out, plus it's best to wait for some of my friends to come back in the summer for the June performance.

But it's always such a great experience...I'm not a huge know-it-all when it comes to classical music, but everything the CSO does is so beautiful...nothing beats going to Ravinia, laying on the grass and relaxing to the music...having a few snacks and wine too hehe.

Do I like classical musik... yes... Mozart, Wagner, Bach... all great... but do I have a favorite orchestra ??? Not really... unless you count the Elektrik Light Orchestra...

I couldn't choose a sepcific Orchestra. I could choose a few specific pieces, though.

Well you could always list some of your favorite pieces too.

I have too many favorites...though for some reason I like Franz Liszt's work the most.

Franz Liszt is cool. The first real virtuoso.

I love various composers, ranging from Haydn to Vivaldi, Beethoven being a particular favorite of mine. :)

Some of my favorite pieces:

Vivaldi's the Four Seasons, particularly Winter and Spring.
Mozart's Symphony #40
Beethoven's Symphony #5
Beethoven's Symphony #6
Beethoven's Symphony #9
Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata

One of my favorites is "In the Hall of the Mountain King" you may not know the name but if you heard it you would know it... its in many videogames too... Oh and Ritt der Valküren... best know from the Hellicoper attack scene in Apocalipse now...

I really don't know much about classical, but I do enjoy listening to it, always have. What I really like about it is that it's so...musical. Timeless stuff if you ask me.

@El Duderino: Ah, quite a notable piece. Grieg's most famous, I'm sure. For some reason it always makes me think of Halloween, and I'm not sure why.

There are many great ocherstra's, can't really pick just one.
