Bite my shiny metal cockpit!

Tencent seemingly has the tendency to let studios do what they want. I think Digital Extremes and Warframe is a good example.
I wonder what their game plan is though, they must have a good reason for acquiring so many studios.

Money

Tbh, CCP regularly fucks over Tencent with regulatory lawsuits, most recently, Tencent and NetEase lost $60b in value between them due to CCP going after the tech/gaming industry so I think that may be a reason why Tencent is a tad desperate to expand overseas.

And they have some major ownerships so they can afford to take some risks on other studios, like Embracer Group snatching everything up, something will eventually be a hit.

Don't really like Tencent owning everything because even though I don't think they particularly enjoy being under CCP, it's ultimately irrelevant and they'll have to do what CCP says, I do appreciate that thus far, Tencent has stayed very hands off with the majority of their studios so I can see why someone would sell to them, they're hands off, they're extremely rich and you can still release on whatever platforms you want but I'm sure there's some topics that these studio employees won't dare touch now.

Let’s see how chill Tencent is when topics like Tiananmen Square, Tibet, Xinjiang, and Hong Kong come up amongst workers in the companies it is invested in.

Money is definitely a big factor for Pony Ma, but Xi Jinping sees Tencent as a way to spread CPC influence and control both within and without China’s borders
