Forums - Gaming - Open world games where you DONT fast travel?

Played through Spider-Man (PS4) recently and I almost never used the fast travel feature bcuz of how fun the swinging is + JJJ radio and other stuff that pops

That led me to wondering, are there any games y’all have played where u never wanted to fast travel bcuz of how fun traversing the world was?

Burnout Paradise

Forza Horizon 4/5. Cars go fast and the visuals in that game while you are driving are fap worthy. Fast travel should be considered a sin in that game.

Cyberpunk 2077. I used fast travel but it was rare.

Forza Horizon, driving to the next race is actually more fun than the races themselves. Sometimes I just end up driving around.

BotW, did not use fast travel a single time. It's just great to be in that world.

And yep, Spiderman, also never used fast travel.

In Death stranding I only used it a couple times when the game called for it.

Did RDR(2) have fast travel? Fallout games? If they did, also not used.

I rarely use fast travel in any game. The only game I used fast travel frequently was Halo Infinite, since the open world isn't all that interesting and the vehicles are rather poor. Plus what else good are the FOBs for. And Ghost of Tsushima, I used fast travel a lot there to speed up the endless collectathon process. It also helped I played it on PS5 and fast travel is actually fast. Loading times are usually enough to deter me from using fast travel. Nothing fast about having to wait 30 seconds to a minute.

Agree with Cyberpunk 2077. Such a good game for exploring the world and enjoying the city.

Infamous 2 and Infamous Second Son, also very fun to travel without fast travel.

Days Gone kind of half and half for me. If the runners didn't exist, would definitely be more palatable.

Fallout 4 had random encounter points all over the world, some of which were really nifty. It made traveling more dynamic and sometimes a bit scary. I hope to see that return and evolve with Starfield and the next Elder Scrolls game.

Halo Infinite comes to mind. The map isn't overly large and there are things to find that are not simply icons on a map, so I never felt the need/desire to fast travel. Especially when you get ahold of a Banshee and take to the skys. Really makes you appreciate the atmosphere IMO. It also helps that the addition of the grappling hook makes traversing Zeta extremely fun.

In the old WoW Vanilla days. Having just 1 Hearth every hour, it was walk everywhere and if you are on a PvP server, got the chance of being ganked for hours especially by high level players with mounts. Was also extremely hard to afford a mount. Game was brutal, but that was half the fun of it.
