So update on my end: I beat Returnal recently. What a damn game. Most into a game I’ve been probably since GoW in 4/2018. The combat is awesome. Housemarque is just so good at sculpting you into a badass. I struggled so hard in the first two biomes and died around 20-25x and spent around 25h playing. But in Biome 3 I think I only died once and beat the boss my first try. In Biomes 4-6 I also only died a total of once and beat every boss first try. The game does get harder in the latter half, but my skill just increased a lot more than the difficulty. Now for the post-game...

For anyone who’s irritated with the difficulty and wants to stop playing, I can relate. But I recommend sticking with it, bc now it’s one of my fav games in the last five years.

I also just beat it. True ending and everyhing.

You simply just get better with experience. It is just that easy.  You learn what weapons you like, but traits you want, and how to fight certain enemies.

The first time I beat the final boss I was like "how the hell did I do that". The second time it was the easiest thing I've done.

My objection? The randomness. The logs, the ciphers and the fragments. The first two are trophy only, the third one however is needed for the true ending.

Nice, man. Congrats. That’s my goal next. Just haven’t been able to play much lately.

I agree about the randomness for the ciphers. Idk how the audio logs and fragments work, but I watched someone stream themselves trying to find the final two ciphers, and it’s a huge pain. They really should’ve done something to make sure the cipher you need shows up somewhere in the level it’s located in. To play the level to completion just to find out the fragment didn’t randomize itself into the level is frustrating and doesn’t really respect the player’s time. This doesn’t take away from how amazing the core game of Returnal is, and Housemarque has now become one of my favorite devs, but they do really need to sort this issue out.

Are the audio logs and sun fragments the same as the ciphers in terms of randomization? Only thing I did since beating the core game was play Biome 4 to completion a single time. I didn’t see a sun fragment anywhere. Is it possible for a biome’s sun fragment to just not show up in a play through? (Same question for the audio logs, but I have a feeling the answer to both is yes)

I don't think they are random. I know the first 5 or so appear in places that aren't random. For example the 4th biome.

There is an area with a no dash zone. Also lava, and a red thing that shoots out those red circles.  At the end is a purple door. The fragment was infront of that purple door.

Also it is important to note the fragment DOES get put on the HUD. So collect all of those little green triangles that indicate an "item".

My issue with the 6th fragment is that it was attached to a secret area I never saw.  You get past one chest, and then another chest, and then you shoot something to make your way to it. The scout log is in the same area - so that one may be random. The rest I don't think so.

Audio logs however can be random. They are attached to areas and those areas can just not show up. If the "area" shows up the log shows up. Ciphers are the same way. They are attached to areas, but those areas are random.

Thanks for the tips, dude!

So it seems you liked it but with reservations. How would you rate or score it?

The dual sense is 10/10. You can feel the rain hitting your character through the controller. The soft little vibrations. That sound that your "alt" comes back from your controller.

I don’t hear the sound from the controller when I play this game.  This is the first game I simply don’t want to play without headphones and 3D sounds (I use the Pulse headphones). It really helps locating everything quickly as you zip through the levels without having to rely on the on-screen visual cues.

I am also on Act 3. Haven’t played much the last few days but I will probably finish the game in the next 24h since I have the next two days off, and I want to be [mostly] done with it before Intergrade and Ratchet hit.
