Forums - Nintendo - Zelda Wii should use a simpler control scheme and a different design

Wouldn't anyone like to see a bigger Hyrule? I seriously doubt that they'll use the same map as TP, with out at least adding something to it, or drastically editing it, but I want a huge Hyrule, like twice the size of the one in TP, with a much bigger storyline, and overall a longer game. The Wii could easily hold a game twice as big as a gamecube game, so why not?

But with a bigger Hyrule brings more empty space. There was too much empty space in TP.

Hell, even OoT had far too much empty and wasted space (Hyrule Field anyone?). TWW suffered from this problem as well.

I'd rather see a game with a smaller overworld and more to do. (I've heard MM is like this, but I've never played it)

The "key gameplay essence" that I always consider to be Zelda was barely present in TP. And this is "using new items to explore further, and reach new areas of the overworld, which in turn leads to new items, missions, etc".

It was either in really obvious ways (enter dungeon, get this item before getting into this room - i.e. a glorified "key"), or used in the overworld for OPTIONAL items or hearts.

But - the game was generally very easy, so hearts are sort of pointless. The exploration used to find them, was much more fun than getting the hearts themselves.

And money was *effectively* pointless. There was very little to buy, or really do with your money - and once you get into that position, much of the game becomes lacking.

I thought Z:PH solved both of these issues pretty well.

Go back to Z:LTTP, and give us a 3rd version, with Wii capable gfx, and better Wii-specific controls - and I'll be pretty happy. It can even be a HARD game - its ok Ninty!!

NO MORE ALTTP REMAKES, OoT AND TP WERE ENOUGH

Anyway, I thought PH was a horrible game and I really hope they don't make any more games like it.

I would like a wind waker style zelda for the wii.

Zelda is a classic franchise. Miyamoto and company have already stated that they want to make Zelda Wii something very different. I personally want to see a HUGE Zelda world that is seamless or nearly seamless. The space doesn't have to be wasted, they could create more than one or two towns this time. There could be more people and more side quests. I want to see a Zelda that is more EPIC than a FF game.

As far as controls go, the controls for TP were very good imho. I would like some expounding on them though to make them even better. As for harder enemies, just make the game like the original game. You have to beat it twice to get the full game experience. Zelda Wii could do this easily, as a two-layered disk, like SSBB.

The items "problem" isn't an issue for me. I agree that they could have done more with them outside of the dungeon, but it wasn't a big deal. I would like to see them incorporate motion controls into the items though instead of just pushing a button for item X. The sword controls will be fine as they are, or with a bit of tweaking.

Personally I kinda liked the side-quests of helping citizens in MM, but didn't like the time mechanic of that game. They could make Link a kid again or whatever age they want, and it will be a good game. They could make the game "more mature" (which imho would be a mistake) or keep the same level or even make it more accessible to everyone. It doesn't much matter to me really. I like the franchise and will follow it till it jumps the shark/goes down hill/starts sucking/etc. Then I will move on.

That'¡s interesting. ^^

TP was actually a port of the GC game so I suppose that the Wii version will be made from the ground to fit the wii mote. Think of "Phantom Hourglass" for example. Maybe something simmilar may come for the wii, in both the input method or making it more accesible to the masses.

Do people expect to see something from the next Zelda at E3? Twilight Princess was shown at E3 2004 and released at the end of 2006, so 2 and a half year before release. But it also got heavily delayed, so that explain part of the big gap between the first info and the actual release. Still, if they aim to release the game for holiday 2009 we could get some first images this year although I fear we won't be seeing any of the big changes yet (if they are there in the first place).

Edit: I just remember seeing an E3 prediction thread on the boards recently, so just ignore this post.

I expect Zelda Wii to have at least a year before it's announced.

And Buffalo, maybe the next Zelda will be point and click :P

OoT's Hyrule field was just fine, and the open water in TWW fit with the story.

TP, however, was needlessly empty.  They had giant fields that weren't even really connected, and there were few reasons to visit these areas aside from a need to get to someplace else.

They should've had more places to visit in these fields ala Lon Lon Ranch from OoT.

The sidequests in MM were excellent (though some had little direction, like trying to get the Couple's Mask, and thus were very confusing).  I definitely want more sidequests and minigames (like the various target practices from OoT) in the next Zelda.
