Forums - Sony Discussion - PS5 Pre-orders hit with massive cancelation by stores due to insufficient inventory

Seems like PS5 is facing major pre-order cancelation problems.

https://www.playstationlifestyle.net/2020/10/23/report-ps5-preorder-cancellations/#:~:text=Another%20Twitter%20user%20who%20preordered,to%20a%20lot%20of%20people.%E2%80%9D

Is Sony with difficulties to ship enough, are buyers unsatisfied with the reveals, have stores put more pre-orders than they had ordered?

What does it means for the launch numbers and until March shipments?

God awful title.

"Reports are going around regarding cancelled preorders for both the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Apparently, several customers are receiving cancellation notices from GameStop and Target."

The article is about stores cancelling peoples (Both systems) pre orders. As opposed to reading as people who ordered the PS5 are cancelling them.

Several articles that I saw used titles that let people thinking that users are doing massive cancel of their own preorders instead of stores doing it.

I know one Japanese analyst that's going to be disappointed.

and this was known since a couple of weeks ago that retailers were gonna cancel some pre-orders because of stock issues.

Yep that's why I check mine every day. I was lucky to get a chance at two.  I'll cancel one if I get a guarantee on the other.  I'm not even sure I will get a guarantee. I think they will just ship them out without word.

I wouldn't cancel if I were you. Worst case you could see if a friend that wanted weren't able to get and resell to him without profit.

The impression I got was that people are cancelling their preorders. Please edit the title to give people a better idea of what's going on.

I did offer a friend that offer. They are unsure have to check with the wife etc.

I'm not going to scalp it so keeping it is a potential for a loss.

And as far as the thread goes.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-sony-playstation-5/sony-seeing-very-considerable-ps5-demand-ahead-of-launch-idUSKBN27C2P5?il=0&source=news_body_link

"Jim Ryan says that the company has pre-sold as many PS5 units in the first 12 hours of availability as it did in the first 12 weeks for the PS4."

“It may be that not everybody who wants to buy a PS5 on launch day will be able to find one"

And I remember how hard the PS4 was to find. People waited in long ass lines to get one.

Well 12h of preorder being equal to 12 weeks of PS4 that broke a lot of records is just massive. As we already knew, both PS and Series will see almost all available for preorder.

Ok will edit, but then it will be different than what media is using =p

Much as I’d like to jump all over this, there’s too many variables. Retailers sent out too many preorders relative to stock or some truth to rumors of PS5 production. Could be nothing to worry about.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Most likely scenario is that retailers don't have enough confirmed inventory to all the pre-order they sold and that applies to Series as well. Seems like both consoles will be sold out for the whole year.

Just as expected both will sell almost as many as they could possibly manufacture for launch.
