Forums - Gaming - Microsoft Teases Sony For PS3 GTA IV Install Time

I'm not saying that installs aren't bad, they are, and they suck.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't ever have any space problems on my 360. Granted, I have the 120 gig, but even when I had the twenty gig, I always had space. Once I get done playing a demo I delete it, and I don't download TV shows and whatnot, so I was always sitting pretty with 12 or so gigs to use.

And with the PS3 not having downloadable shows/movies, there really should only be game saves, and mp3s on there, and demos. That's not going to take up a sizeable chunk of anyone's hard drive, unless they're stockpiling demos for some odd reason. So a few gigs to play a game isn't that horrible. I just don't see what the big problem is.

I don't think it's a big problem either, especially since most of the people who have their disks filled up are more likely to be the people who will rationalize this and not care so much about it.

But from a principle point of view, I agree with you; I don't like it at all. Let consoles be consoles, and PCs be PCs.

Well, I have to admit that the whole logic behind console games having install times really chaps my hide. No installing of anything is one of the major benefits to console gaming vs pc's.

Granted if it were a mere minute or two, then no biggie. But, when you start to get to the 10min mark, you have really out done yourself.

-1 for Sony in my view for the many games lately with installs.

I agree... one of the bests thing about consoles is that you can just pic any game out of your collection at any time, pop it in and play... once you have to install and uninstall games that feeling is gone... it´s no biggie but still the Wii and 360 have that as an advantage over the PS3 IMO

Install times suck. We all know.

But unless you plan on deleting the 1 or 2 gigs of data that gets installed on it after every time you play it, you can still pop it in and play.

I too think that all this install BS should stop, but many people obviously don't really care. Take a look at DMC4 sales, which have sold better on the 22-minute-installing PS3 version rather than the Pop-in-and-play 360 version. The only people who don't like installs are people who are looking for a reason to not like the PS3 for whatever reason, it's really not that big of a deal, as the sales show us.

First of all I sayed this was no biggie... second of, this is a reason not to like the PS3... a very small one sure but it is a reason... if you have a 40 gig PS3 those 40gigs should be for downloaded games, videos, musik and other media... not your games... once you buy a game and have to uninstall other stuff you will start wishing the PS3 wouldn´t need installs...

The only reason PS3 version has outsold the 360 version by a measely 130k is due to Japan where it outsold the 360's version by about 240k. If you take out the extremely biased Japan 360 version sold better.

Nearly every multi-platform game out has been heavily in 360's favor. I don't think this one game is a good indicator of install time difference in sales.
