Forums - Gaming - Microsoft Teases Sony For PS3 GTA IV Install Time

Well, I have to admit that the whole logic behind console games having install times really chaps my hide. No installing of anything is one of the major benefits to console gaming vs pc's.

Granted if it were a mere minute or two, then no biggie. But, when you start to get to the 10min mark, you have really out done yourself.

-1 for Sony in my view for the many games lately with installs.

I agree... one of the bests thing about consoles is that you can just pic any game out of your collection at any time, pop it in and play... once you have to install and uninstall games that feeling is gone... it´s no biggie but still the Wii and 360 have that as an advantage over the PS3 IMO

I thought the real benefits were that the screen was bigger, you get to sit on a comfy couch, and you feel like slightly less of a nerd.

Well, that all depends on your pc setup and my mom always said that I am not a nerd.

Anyone get the vision of two kids having a fit with each other?

While another kid enjoys the fight?

Since I play my 360 on the same monitor I use for my computer and sit in the same easy-chair this does´t apply to me at all... but I guess I`m in the minority with that...

Install times suck.  We all know.

But unless you plan on deleting the 1 or 2 gigs of data that gets installed on it after every time you play it, you can still pop it in and play.

I too think that all this install BS should stop, but many people obviously don't really care.  Take a look at DMC4 sales, which have sold better on the 22-minute-installing PS3 version rather than the Pop-in-and-play 360 version.  The only people who don't like installs are people who are looking for a reason to not like the PS3 for whatever reason, it's really not that big of a deal, as the sales show us.

Where was all this bravado at when DMC4 launched? Guess that this is really important to them, seeing as that PS3 has beaten 360 in it's own market, they're a little hurt, so it's time to hurl insults.

The fact of the matter is that no XBOX 360 game will have a mandatory install. Since HDD isn't necessary, nothing will ever be 'mandatory', but I'm sure I will install on my 360 the data, for smoother gameplay.

I will probably also install (if possible on the 360), but I don't think anyone can reasonably say that a mandatory install is a good thing. One of the big reasons why people buy consoles is simplicity. Once you have to free up space and wait to play a game, that simplicity is gone.

You know, I really don't mind the install times. When I am playing video games, chances are good that I should be doing something else. Besides, a 5 minute install is not gonna kill me.

I'm not saying that installs aren't bad, they are, and they suck.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I don't ever have any space problems on my 360.  Granted, I have the 120 gig, but even when I had the twenty gig, I always had space.  Once I get done playing a demo I delete it, and I don't download TV shows and whatnot, so I was always sitting pretty with 12 or so gigs to use.

And with the PS3 not having downloadable shows/movies, there really should only be game saves, and mp3s on there, and demos.  That's not going to take up a sizeable chunk of anyone's hard drive, unless they're stockpiling demos for some odd reason.  So a few gigs to play a game isn't that horrible.  I just don't see what the big problem is.

First of all I sayed this was no biggie... second of, this is a reason not to like the PS3... a very small one sure but it is a reason... if you have a 40 gig PS3 those 40gigs should be for downloaded games, videos, musik and other media... not your games... once you buy a game and have to uninstall other stuff you will start wishing the PS3 wouldn´t need installs...

I don´t like mandatory installs either...I´m SERIOUSLY hoping this doesn´t become the norm for every single game when the next generation comes.
