Forums - Gaming - Fallout fans-Why do you not like Fallout 3?

Fallout 3 is being made to appeal to the mainstream since Fallout 1 and 2 were never especially popular outside of the series hardcore fans. The game is looking really good, it is my most anticipated RPG to be released this year

No child-killing, no prostitution, no drug addiction, no trademarks of the series.

Fallout was a seriously f***ed up game... Fallout 2 was even worse. Funny, dark, evil. Bethesda is removing half of what made the series great in the first place and is softballing the Fallout world to appease the mouth breathers.

F*** Bethesda. F*** them in their stupid asses.

Here are my reasons, right in their asses.

I don't need your console war.
It feeds the rich while it buries the poor.
You're power hungry, spinnin' stories, and bein' graphics whores.
I don't need your console war.

NO NO, NO NO NO.

never played any of the previous ones, but this has caught my interest

jman, not quite. Troika, a team largely made up of the original creators of Fallout had placed a bid to make fallout 3 but were unfortunately, outbid by bethesda. Interplay was even making a game in the series under the code name of van buren.

To say the series was dead sounds a bit ignorant as there was a tremendous amount of interest in it from various parties. To relate it to your example with Chrono Cross, it would be as if they had plans to make a real sequel to Chronotrigger, but at the last minute, EA bought the rights and decided to do it their own way.

Thanks for the correction. Like I said, I know next to nothing about this series, but was trying to be positive about it. That does sound pretty shitty.

My Top 5:

Shadow of the Colossus, Metal Gear Solid 3, Shenmue, Skies of Arcadia, Chrono Trigger

My 2 nex-gen systems: PS3 and Wii

Prediction Aug '08: We see the PSP2 released fall '09. Graphically, it's basically the same as the current system. UMD drive ditched and replaced by 4-8gb on board flash memory. Other upgrades: 2nd analog nub, touchscreen, blutooth, motion sensor. Design: Flip-style or slider. Size: Think Iphone. Cost: $199. Will be profitable on day 1.

Because Bethesda cant make a good game to save themselves. Oblivion sucked.

Ok think about it this way.

What made fallout great? The dark humour and setting, turn based combat, multiple playing styles. Actual characters and settings that are interesting. The fact that you could do quests in different ways. The fact that I could kill children. It wasn't suger coated. Fallout was truly faithful to the post-nuclear setting. Bethesda are incapable of doing any of these things.

"Hey guys lets buy fallout and make it oblivion with GUNZ"

"What a great idea old chap!"

They're going to make fallout 3 a game that is only fallout at its face value. It wont be dark, it wont be funny, it wont blur morality like the fallout games did.

I was reading pcpp (a popular games magazine in Australia). They had an interview about the game and they were talking about the super mutants in the game and how you can't negotiate with them because they're obvilously evil viscious super mutants! Wait a sec! You could negotiate with super mutants in fallout. Lets just make everything black and white, its easier to design and will sell more. They even said in the interview that it wont have dark humour :( Thats why the second game was so great, it was funny as hell.

Much love Bethesda. Much love.

EDIT Poor troika, the world was ready for your genius :(

The devs from Bethesda said it themselves, there will be NO prostitution, NO drug addiction, NO sex themes, NO child killing, NO racism and NO xenophoby. Basically it's as if they're trying to make the game Teen-Rated.

And not only that, but they also changed the cool 60's-based hunchback mutants design into the generic Oblivion-ogres Mutants.

And possibly the worst of all, they are remodelling the dialogue structure from Fallout1&2. Instead of the character having unique dialogue options based on your intelligence, knowledge and skill; now on Fallout 3 every character will have the EXACT SAME DIALOGUES, and the Intelligence only affects what's your success percentage on your dialogues, it doesn't changes the dialogues options. This means even if your char has the lowest intellect, the options will still be the same...

For comparison, In Fallout 1&2 if your character had low intellect it could only grunt and growl to other people because you were a complete retarded. So much fun, some of the NPC's even took pity on you and gave you stuff, while most looked at you with contempt and didn't gave a crap about you for being retarded. You won't see this in Fallout 3.

Shame on you Bethesda.

God, hearing you guys reminisce really makes me wanna see what the original games were all about. Can I get 'em for Mac?

S'all good, it's really the only series I know much about so I understand the lack of knowledge on it.

If you're interested in finding out more about the older games/where to get copies for mac, check out www.nma-fallout.com, and probably more specifically, this section: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=6&sid=718c06125a97f3f423a9e5d7c9fbf00c

I play fallout on my mac so the answer is most definetly yes!

To be more on topic. Bethesda just doesn't care. They want fallout ot be something its not. Its not like fallout was a extremely popular ip in the first place. They could have easily created their own setting more cheaply. I still adamantly believe that Trioka would have been the only company worthly of fallout. All the good pc RPG developers are dissapearing. Its a shame as the genre really elevated gaming above the realms of pure entertainment.

Question: Would the content that Fallout 1/2 had, in today's world, with high-rez 3d graphics made it?

I mean, the Witcher nearly got banned for merely having some prositution in it. We live in a post hot-coffee era, where Bethsada was/is already skating on thin ice because of the breast data included in Oblivion, and had to remove it. What did you think they were going to do?

This doesn't mean I'm all for them taking all the A-rated stuff out (because I'd definately want it to be there), but still....It's nearly 2010. Games aren't as liberal and violent as they were and coulda been.

Back from the dead, I'm afraid.
