Forums - Sony - A Shark Swimming in a Pool of Dolphins: PS3 in Japan.

More games appealing for the Japanese and a price cut will be enough to make PS3 start selling better in Japan, then, once reached critical mass, it'll rock. And let's not forget that the huge investments in HW power will pay, as they'll give it a greater longevity, while Nintendo will be forced to release an HD console one or two years before PS4 (but this won't really hurt them, as by then the necessary HW will be cheap), so that Sony will have time to close the gap in the current gen consoles. And perhaps, at the time of the second to next generation the competing consoles releases will be so scattered that a comparison won't make much sense.

Thanks for the comparison Source, it does shed some light on the state of the market in Japan.

Oh gosh it's the same arguement over and over, PS3 Domination begins 2007 err 2008, err 2009?

Does it matter? How can you say they've gone casual?

It's like living all your life thinking Peanut butter was it, then you got introduced to Jelly and the rest is history.

Sony has so much in the works right now I've grown disgusted at hearing.

(FFXIII/MGS4/GTA5/Haze/LBP) Will save the PS3.

Look at that 5 major titles all of them third party (except LBP which might be 2nd party) Their is a lot of love for the PS3 from devs, just deal with what the market is doing and life will be fine.

The market decides what sells and what doesn't sell, and for now the trend is Wii sells.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The japanease have gone casual or to handhelds.

MGS4/hAZE/gt5/lbp/ cant save ps3 in japan they dont like that stuff.

FFXIII can though, it probably will

What is casual? (thats a rhetorical question.)

Those games don't float their boats?

The reason is simple if what your assessing is true, those games are too niche in japan.

People don't turn, their given options, maybe they liked their options, hence the market making it's decision.

My point was that on the developer end the PS3 is getting a lot of love, so don't knock it or despair about it.

And friggin whats this about the PS3 struggling in the casual gamer market, when they never intended to go for the so called casual market?

Hell Nintendo went for it sure so did Popcap their loving it at the moment, but their not competeing with anything the PS3 intended to go for.

What killed the PS3 early on was the price point, forget the Wii's price, like they said it isn't competeing with the PS3 their two different markets.

If anything gandering this as the wii being a console then the PS3 would be invading the Wii's market, which isn't totally accesible now because of the price point.  (Clearly casuals don't care enough about HD)

Whats this mean? Sony over shot the market boom. So yes those forementioned 5 games will save the PS3 they will attract the crowd they were aiming for. It's just now people have options in genres.

nice text

and that's why I think it would help so much if the PS3 would have a Japanese AAA title for the end of this year, for a so called 'relaunch',
why I think it's a missed chance if FFXIII will miss december 2008 in Japan

'cause like you say,
1 game or a couple maybe can't make or brake a console,
but together with other factors like the PSP and renewed media attention and others,
a killer title this december would be huge support for the PS3

''Hadouken!''

they might not be good console sellers instandly

but this years fighters Street Fighter IV, Tekken 6 and Soul Calibur IV will make the PS3 store shelfs certainly look better
(and two of those being multi won't have an significant influence in Japan
in Japan Wii/PS3 multi platforms will have siginificance, instead of PS3/360 ones
so you can practiculary consider SFIV and SCIV PS3 exclusives)

''Hadouken!''

^True. Street Fighter 4, had forgotten that one and Tekken 6 of course is a huge title for Japan. I also wonder if Resident Evil 5 (Biohazard) will debut in Japan this year.

I dont see a PS3 Slim but I do see another price drop or two.
