Forums - Sony - Kojima Disappointed With Metal Gear Solid 4

Ian said:
All the 360 has more of this and PS3 has more of that is a waste of time. No system on the market can realize this guy's vision. These programmers are artists and each have a different style.

Kojima is the guy who tells you his art is not up to his expectations but in reality it's way better than anything on exhibit. Compared to say someone like the team ninja guy who thinks he's the best developer in the world and he makes the same womanizing, shiny as hell hyper violent crap as he did last gen (Ninja Gaiden is good but way overrated- imo).

I think we all benefit from kojima's humility and perfectionist nature, that game is going to blow people away.

 Excelent post :) I do agree that many people will benefit from his efforts and attitude about creating this game, I think Kojima is absolutely amazing, and the man is certainly dedicated to his work lol. Kojima seems like the type of guy that will add something, then realize he can do something with the add-on, then do something with that add-on etc etc etc. There really is nothing that will stop this man's immagination xD I think Fazz was right, maybe he should have started this series on PC xD.

LOL @ the Ninja Gaiden coment xD <3

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

Kojima, you POWER WHORE!!! Haven't you learned anything from your own MGS scripts!?

Plus I don't think any game ever ends up meeting all its ambitious objectives, at least games that are trying to push higher.

Thanks to Blacksaber for the sig!

You guys are blowing this out of proportion. I have the mag and he refers to the original vision when the PS3 was still in the planning stage....

I mean if you think you are getting a Core4Quad but you end up with a Core2Duo, while still very very powerful, you still be unable to do the same stuff on them....

Basically he was aiming extremely high and he ended up being higher than everything else currently available but still not as high as originally planned....

In other words, MGS4 will be the best game gameplay wise, excellent graphically, have huge maps, but as much as it's currently possible on the PS3 and not in his mind....

PSN ID: T_Gears

End of 2009 ltd sales:

Wii = 67-68m

X360 = 38-39m

PS3 = 34-35m

Prediction: The PS3 will surpass the 360 on weekly sales after it drops to $299 on all regular weeks (no big releases).

Psh, I don't know about the people who will (undoubtedly) blow this out of proportion, but it's made me even more excited for June 12th.

10/10

for a second I thought he wasn't just hyping the game.

"We're using the Cell engine to its limit."

come on now...

"But the graphic, side things like motion-blending and the size of the map, totally was not accomplished to my original vision - to my satisfaction."

That means this game will look like real life then or close to it, I'm on the hype train XD.

I'm Unamerica and you can too.

The Hunt Begins 4/20/2010 =D

Fascinating. Little episodes like this always remind me of the fundamental reasons why East Asia is booming, while the US sinks into the Great Trackless Swamp of Former Superpowers Who Went Bankrupt on Jackass Colonial Adventurism.

Most US or UK developers expend vast amounts of energy proclaiming their qualifications to be the next gaming demigod - instead of producing a halfway decent game. John Romero is probably the best-known example, but it's sadly prevalent in the industry. But Japanese developers, very much like the engineers who work at Sony, Hitachi, Canon and the other titans of Japanese industry, tend to be low-key and emphasize the group's effort and achievements. (There are exceptions, but the pattern exists.)

Most of all, they tend to be humble: no matter how good the product, they'll always say, we failed to completely satisfy our customers, etc. Many Americans misinterpret this as some weird samurai masochism. Not at all. It's the perfectly understandable pursuit of perfection, which never ends, but you progress by being humble, self-critical, and looking at what you didn't achieve, instead of blabbing on about how your product is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Whether its Japanese cars, Korean electronics, Taiwanese mobos, Chinese chipsets, or Kojima's games -- quality comes through humility and acknowledging your team and hard work, not violence and egoism and drinking your own Koolaid.

MGS4 is going to blow a hole in the roof of the 21st century.

 Honestly my respect for you just multiplied by 10 , disregarding the whole Kojima<>MSG4 situation , what you said about eastern concepts , ideas and attitutdes is so true and spot on.

I  think we should adpot a similar attitude towards everything we do in the west otherwise we'll eventualy be surpassed by emerging economies in the east (Japan,China,India etc)

@SlorNet

+ 100..

you deserve it dude....very nice analysis

All hail the KING, Andrespetmonkey

stop the god damn hype and release this to show me what it is, what kind of bullshit is this coming out saying this game is not my vision of the what I really have in mind. look man I'm no genius but every developer can come out and saying the same shit thing. there is always a limit to every system no matter its the ps10 or xbox 36000, developer have to make the best out of it. hey I have a vision too! a game with the map the size of actual earth without any loading time going inside every freaking dungeon,cave,house in that size of game map. Whats the point coming out telling the public I have a vision much bigger than the ps3 able to handle???? you dont see miyamoto come out and complain about the wii? instead he crafted a gem(mario galaxy) with some sick game design on a very low power system.
