Forums - Nintendo - "The Zelda team is forming again"

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=187213

Nintendo's biggest non-traditional game yet Wii Fit is in UK shops next Friday, but creative mastermind Shigeru Miyamoto promises the company is still working on "the kinds of products we've always made" for the more traditional, analogue stick-twirling gamer (us!).

"As a designer, I'm always focusing on what is fun," he told site 1UP. "Ideas that people can enjoy.

"For me, I'm trying to entertain as many people as I can, creating games that the widest number of people can enjoy. Of course, that being said, we do have the existing teams at Nintendo working on the kinds of products we've always made over the years.

"The Zelda team is forming again to work on new games! But to me, it's about finding these new interactive experiences and bringing them to people."

Miyamoto also settles the WiiFit debate, saying, "yes, in my mind, I would say it is a video game." There you are then.

They need to give Zelda, Metroid, Mario and Pokemon a rest for a while.

They have so many games and franchises under their belt, they need to widen their library. Bring back Mach Rider, make a new Punch-Out, make a solid sequel to Geist (so they can get the FPS fans on-board) and revive Project HAMMER. Make a sequel to Pikmin, a new Excite Bike and/or Wave Race, a new Pilotwings (come on, this is a no-brainer for the Wii), and a revival of Kid Icarus. Hell, a new Hogan's Alley is a no-brainer for a WiiWare rails shooter title.

Oh, and revive Mother/Earthbound in one way or another. DS collection, Virtual Console, Wii collection, new title in the series, I don't care. They need that franchise to return.

No more Zelda for a while. No more of the "Big Four" (Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Pokemon) for a while. They've been milking a few of these franchises far too much in the past couple years. It diminishes the value of new games in those franchises, and lowers variety and creativity.
