"Activision has announced today that the Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare variety map pack has set a new record for the number of paid downloads on Xbox Live Marketplace - surpassing one million downloads in the first nine days since its release.

The company also reported that in the nine days from April 4 - 12, Xbox Live members played more than 30 million COD4 sessions and logged more than 32 million hours of gameplay.

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers one of the best online multiplayer experiences ever," said Will Kassoy, senior vice president, global brand management, Activision Publishing, Inc.

"We are excited to be able to expand that experience and deliver to fans a new variety of locations and environments which have all of the intensity they have come to expect with Call of Duty."

The variety map pack is exclusive to the Xbox 360 through April 24, when it will become available for download via the PlayStation Network."

Around the Network

Do you know how well the halo 3 map pack did in comparison?

I think this really shows that the download model is viable. People dismissing the GTA content don't really have any grounds to stand on now. This shows the market is ready for something as big as the GTA DLC.

Behold the power of DLC

"Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare delivers one of the best online multiplayer experiences ever," This guy must be joking, i wonder if he ever played the game. He might be right if you only count modern day tactical shooters on the 360 under the CoD name.

1mil downloads is just insane.
