Mario Strikers Charged, one of the most highly anticipated titles for Nintendo's Wii system, saw its European launch yesterday. Apparently Nintendo wasn't aware of just how highly anticipated the game was: Nintendo's network reported a slew of error codes when players tried to connect today.
Persistent rumors are saying that Nintendo's server park is unable to handle the immense traffic that the first Wii game to utilize Nintendo's WiFi network is causing. Players who are trying to connect receive error messages that their stats cannot be retrieved right after they have chosen the Mii that will represent them online. Some players have reported that they have been able to play earlier in the day but as more Europeans switched on their Wii, the system started returning more and more errors.
Recent reports say that some players are able to connect now but that some statistics seem to have been lost or reset. We are unable to confirm this at this time.
Wii's first day online. Not a great start but still a step in the right direction.
