Forums - Nintendo - New wii graphical engine. Quantum 3

I started having a couple of thoughts while watching the video ... First off, I didn't think the videos size or format was particularly good at showing the effects they were trying to demonstrate; material effects and normal/bump mapping are more subtile details which are lost at such a low resolution of a compressed video. The next thing was that the art assets were not that great, and you'd be surprised how much more impressive an effect can look when it is used by a really good artist. The last thing I can say is I don't believe this (virtually unknown) developer represents the greatest technical minds on the market; I think this engine represents the work of a competent developer, focusing on showing off the technology of the Wii, and getting good performance out of the hardware.

First of all, there is a hi-rez version of the video.

Second of all, this is just a tech demo for the engine. Polygon count and texturing  can be saved for a major game.

Third of all, we don't think they represent the greatest minds. We think they represent people who actually want to push the Wii, which is too rare right now.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

Sorry I meant the HD version.

Edit: Ok I just figured it out!

I thought bumping was not allowed lol.

I really like all the different mapping techniques going on that tech demo. The lighting looks specially good. I already mentioned the low polygon count, but it's an early demo so I guess they will work that out.

This engine, and that Factor 5 engine sure will help a lot in the "no more PS2 looks" department... as long as they license the engines ^^

Yeah I also like the effects they used such as the texture projection of the lantern, and the water effects. It's all of the little things that add together and make it look nicer. The bump mapping kinda made up for the low polygon count a little.

Great to see a company develop engine just for wii. And to those comparing to UE3, of course it's fields away from it, thats not a fair comparison as UE3 is developed for major powered consoles and PC. Should compare this to other comparative Wii engines. As a Wii engine it looks great. Definate leap from last gen. No one can argue that now.:)

I don´t understand because people complain about this developers are unknow.

We have the explame of dementium the ward a game developed by a indie group and have better graphics than almost all non-nintendo games

I just hope it's going to run at 60fps. Below that is just... Ugggh... Especially with the Wii controls where you need lots of precision.

Random game thought :
Why is Bionic Commando Rearmed 2 getting so much hate? We finally get a real game and they're not even satisfied... I'm starting to hate the gaming community so f****** much...
