Forums - Nintendo - New wii graphical engine. Quantum 3

This was mentioned in another thread, but wasn't the main topic, and I feel it's important enough for it's own thread. http://wii.ign.com/dor/objects/14248157/the-conduit/videos/hightechwii.html

It won't embed correctly. Hopefully 3rd parties will start using this , and we could say bye bye to ps2 graphics.

wow, one person posts a thread and now we have 3 threads relating to the Conduit game.(I made one of them)

Yeah , but that is more focused on the game itself, and your thread is focused on the mass array of games the wii is getting.

The odd thing is this supports Nibris's comment that the Wii could pull off effects thought not possible on it, since the video for Q3E shows them.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.

Plus, just for the hell of it: Kelly Brook at the 2008 BAFTAs

It looks good but if you compare it with the last techdemo of GEOW 2....I know it is not fair =p.

Well UE3 has been complete for several months, and has further development, not to mention is a demo of a game in an already extablished series, not just a demo for the engine, so it's not even a valid comparison even if you didn't take different specs into account (assuming you mean Gears of War 2).

So is there a quantum 1 or 2. If so could anybody tell me what games they were used for?

Well so far I think this really puts the Wii between the PS2 and the HD consoles, I´m glad there is a dev team out there with enough courage to show their work on the Wii showing just the graphics...

By me:

Made with Blender + LuxRender
"Since you can´t understand ... there is no point to taking you seriously."

I started having a couple of thoughts while watching the video ... First off, I didn't think the videos size or format was particularly good at showing the effects they were trying to demonstrate; material effects and normal/bump mapping are more subtile details which are lost at such a low resolution of a compressed video. The next thing was that the art assets were not that great, and you'd be surprised how much more impressive an effect can look when it is used by a really good artist. The last thing I can say is I don't believe this (virtually unknown) developer represents the greatest technical minds on the market; I think this engine represents the work of a competent developer, focusing on showing off the technology of the Wii, and getting good performance out of the hardware.
