Forums - General - I just bought an HD-DVD player last week..

It was at Wal-Mart where I work and they found it in the back where they were reserving it for a coworker who ultimately decided not to get it for obvious reasons. It was brand new still in it's box and marked down to $75 and came to $70 after adding tax and subtracting my employee discount. On top of that it came with two movies inside, 300 and the Bourne Identity. So the question I pose here to you is in your opinion was this a good buy would you have taken it given the opportunity?

that's like getting a PS2, but using only the DVD playback.

Still, 80 bucks is pretty minimal, even for a dead format.

Can you play dvds on it?

If so thats a waste because they dont make hd dvd movies anymore..

 All HD-DVD upscales DVDs.

For a high quality upscaling DVD player why not considering you got 2 solid action movies in HD.

Personally I wouldn't start building a massive HDDVD library of titles just incase anything happens to your player a few years down the road but it's up to you obviously.

I'd say it was a great deal. You can still find cheap HD DVD movies all over the place, so stock up now. I'd get a blu ray player eventually, though, because I'd imagine you will want to expand your movie collection.

 Is it able to play movies in DivX format? (I noticed some HD DVD players do) If so, it is worth more than $70 and you should snatch it up very quickly.
