My thoughts on Deathloop after several days in a row playing it:
The Good
- I like the characters and story
- Combat is pretty fun, I like the guns and the powers are very Dishonored like
- I like the artstyle, similar to Dishonored but a tad different
- You don't need to do 2 separate playthroughs for all achievements like past Arkane games
- Stealth is a bit easier than in Dishonored, as there is a very useful cloak power and you only need to be stealthy on a single run of a single level for an achievement (whereas there were achievements for both the player and no enemy bodies being spotted the entire game in Dishonored). However, on the downside, you can't quicksave in Deathloop like you could in past Dishonored games, so you can't save scrub to get the single stealth achievement, one mistake and you have to redo the level on a different loop.
The Not So Good
- By it's very nature, the game is flawed. The whole timeloop mechanic makes the game very repetitive. You have just 4 main maps to explore (which are smaller than most of the Dishonored maps), and you will be going into these maps quite alot of times each, in order to gather all of the upgrades and information you need to get all targets grouped together enough to kill them all in a single day and break the loop. The repetitiveness has me feeling like I can only do a single loop per day before I get burned out. I get the feeling that after Dishonored 2 and Dishonored Death of the Outside missed Bethesda sales targets, Arkane was forced to come up with a way to make the Dishonored model work on a smaller budget, so they came up with this idea to design less and smaller maps and then have you repeat them a ton of times to artificially lengthen the game. Problem is that just makes it feel repetitive.
- Graphics are nothing special, it really looks no better than Dishonored 2 in spite of Dishonored 2 being last gen and Deathloop being current gen, and Dishonored 2 even looks better in a few areas imo. Again, I think this was likely a cost saving measure after Dishonored 2 and Death of the Outsider missed Bethesda's sales targets, which is a real shame.
- The enemy AI is pretty dumb. You can shoot at them from stealth with the silenced gun and miss and they will run like 2 feet to the side and poorly hide behind cover that leaves their head still vulnerable or sometimes just stop and duck down completely in the open. They will run straight at you as you mow them down with the machine gun. They are really only a threat to you if you make a big mistake and like 10 or more attack at once, I have died very few times during combat and most of them were because of getting attacked by like 10 or more enemies at once.
- Not much gun variety, maybe 8 total weapons to choose from, with a few variants of each that have a special weapon perk.
I'm honestly a bit surprised that Deathloop reviewed as high as it did considering it's repetitive nature, it not only has an 89 meta on Xbox Series (87 and 88 on PC and PS5), but it also won several awards including Critics' Choice at the Golden Joystick awards, Best Direction at Keighley's The Game Awards 2021, Outstanding Achievement in Game Direction at the DICE Awards, and Best Game (GOTY) at the Pegases Awards. It's not a bad game, but I don't think it's as good as any of the 3 Dishonored games from Arkane, and yet it out-reviewed 2 of the 3 Dishonored games.

I played this game at launch last year on PC and I completely agree with your points. You thought the AI is dumb now. It was substantially worse at launch lol. There were times I came in with a shotgun and nobody would react so this AI is after quite a few updates.
For me, the biggest disappointment was that I couldn't just take out all 8 targets in a single run. I had to end a portion of the day to go find the next 2 Visionaries. I thought I had complete freedom to take out all 8 targets. I did not. The game still forces you to tackle the main loop of the game the way it wants you to.
I still found a lot of enjoyment from the game for sure. The story, characters, gunplay, and especially the soundtrack was a lot of fun and worth experiencing. I just expected more from Arkane.
MrMattyPlays thought the game was underwhelming from Arkane's perspective, and I agreed. He didn't understand why it reviewed so highly. And he got some flak for it lol
