  • A report from gaming outlet Lords of Gaming which we can corroborate independently indicates that David Berger, who led development on Halo Infinite's Slipspace Engine, is also leaving 343i.
  • David Berger, who led development of the Slipspace Engine used by Halo Infinite, is also leaving 343i. The report comes originally from outlet Lords of Gaming, but we can confirm via our own sources that it seems to be accurate. Berger has led technical development at 343i for several years, working on Halo 4, 5, and Halo Infinite. Berger is also a veteran Microsoft director who worked on classic titles like Mechwarrior, Shadowrun, and Too Human, before taking up the reins at 343i's engineering department.

Geez, 343 is REALLY being reshuffled!

Was David berger king the one who made Halo Infinite look like an xbox 360 when it was first revealed and PS4 fans bashed it?

The game was still in its earlier stages of development when it was first shown in 2020, running well behind schedule. All games look like crap until the final year or so of development lol. The engine Halo Infinite runs on is a heavily modified version of Bungie's Halo engine that started with the original Halo CE in 2001 lol. So there's a lot of technical issues with the engine that then translates into issues with the game. After almost a year after launch, David does not seem to have been doing a great job at fixing those issues. Maybe there's someone else they have that can get the job done.

Is Microsoft going after the guy who tanked Halo Infinite this month where nobody said anything negative until this month where people say Halo killed itself?

Are you referring to Sean Baron that was interviewed in the Infinite September update video along with Joe Staten? If so, he only took over the position of Head of Live Service 5 months ago in May when it was pretty clear to 343 that their pipeline of seasonal content wasn't going to work. Unfortunately, changes don't happen over night. So he's not going anywhere. I would like for him to alter his viewpoint of multiplayer though lol. Halo multiplayer was always fun party shooter first, competitive shooter second.

Honestly, 343 should just drop Slipspace and use Unreal or Id Tech on their future Halo games. Slipspace seemed amazing when it was first announced, that engine reveal trailer had graphics that shamed any game on the market at the time. Then we saw the actual game and it looked below average graphically within the AAA space. Then we heard about all of the development issues that Slipspace caused behind scenes. Time to pull the plug on Slipspace.

I've never been a big fan of opting for Unreal. Id Tech would be interesting, but primarily not Unreal due to the physics within Halo as well as the extreme customizability of Forge. I don't know of any game that runs Unreal that allows physics gameplay like Halo along with tools like Forge.

It's most likely the same reason why Bethesda won't abandon Creation Engine. Unreal just doesn't support the features they need for the games they make. Or at the very least Unreal Engine would need to be so heavily modded that Epic wouldn't think it's even worth it.

That is way too long. I'm tired of shitty publishers selling shitty Sony exclusive content within games, because it means that players on other platforms are paying the same money for less content.

We're not just talking about keeping content off just Xbox, but PC and Switch gamers are missing out too. The argument is always "it's something small that you're not really going to miss out on" if that were the case, Sony wouldn't have paid exclusivity for that content.
