All home consoles in the next generation will definitely support HD, but I don't see a reason why they wouldn't be at least compatible with SD. AFAIK only a few early 360 titles have issues when played on SDTVs (unreadable text in Dead Rising etc), and there aren't any major technical hurdles involved in implementing it.

The next generation of consoles will render 100% in HD resolution (I'm assuming this will be the case), and then have a scaler that will scale the output to allow it to work on any TV.

HD? Definitely, all of them. HD only? No way. Much better graphics? Hard to say. Maybe.

I think the Wii will be slightly more powerfull than the PS4 so that Nintendo can achieve the lowest price point again , whether or not the same formular will work next gen i'm not sure . But microsoft and Sony will obviously have learnt alot from this gen ( Sony more ) so Nintendo won't have it so easy next gen.

Edit : i didn't even read the thread lol , HD wouldn't even make financial sense in 8-10 years from now. A signifcant amount of the world would still be using SD. 

I have yet to see a DVD, Game Console, HD-DVD, Blu-Ray, Satellite box, or Cable box that supports HD, not support SD.

It's like coming out with e Blu-Ray player that does not play DVD's. It will not happen for decades to come.

For the wii to be slightly more powerful than the PS4, Nintendo needs to spend the money in technology, this in turn will increase the price point of the wii. New technology is expensive, so you can't have new technology and a low price point at the same time unless Nintendo is willing to take a financial hit for the 1st year, like Sony and Microsoft do.

Since Nintendo always makes profit from their console at launch and seeing how successful the wii has been at it's price point with it's relative low specs, when compared to the PS3/360, then I say no to what i've highlighted, it's not going to happen, it's nice to dream but lets be realistic, Nintendo has more successful with the wii than what they've been when trying to compete power wise with it's competition.
