It's just another case of message board hype giving people the wrong ideas likely.
Ther were so many posts people thought the game would be some mega blocbuster.
But here's the thing SRPGs and fans of other niche genres love to overhype their games because they hardly ever see them, and it's not even really overhyping so much as just overexcitement that a game they finally like in one of their favorite genres is coming out.
That and Niche hadcore superfans are overrepresented on internet message boards.

I know there are quite a few on here that want to see this bomb because PS3 is not their console of preference, but I do want to see this title do well in Japan. The Japanese gamers seem so closed-minded these days on good new IPs eg., No More Heroes and Zack & Wiki.
I really feel sorry for Japanese developers that want some creativity or want to test technical boundaries. A long night is ahead for Japanese gaming, I feel.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials
Conservatives: Pushing for a small enough government to be a guest in your living room, or even better - your uterus.

No More Heroes bombing in Japan was not very suprising since Suda 51's games never sold very well and Zack and Wiki is a game from a niche genre as in a limited audience. However, both of these games fared slightly better in the US where both games did 100K+ according to VGCHARTZ

Oh crap. I meant 10k. Sorry my Physics is quite boring, and quick typing on my mobile is kinda difficult.
I meant 10k+ hardware and 125k lifetime for Valkyria Chronicles.

Yes that is really reasonable, although we know the japanese market is unpredictable and it could boost it back to around 15k if it really appeals to them.
I had said from the beginning that this game wasn't going to be a mega blockbuster, but even I was expecting more than 100k. Sega's going to take quite the hit because this game won't have legs and will have a hell of a time selling in western markets due to the overall niche nature of SRPGs.
