They've been shrinking size of their components for a while. They said they will impliment them in Fall this year... I don't know if that means price drop or slim line but... we'll see. Slimline in Christmas would be excellent.
I believe the reason the PS3 is doing poorly in Japan right now is because Sony has put all of their attention on the US and Europe at the moment. Considering Japan's console sales are doing so poorly right now, it's not that unreasonable not to.
This will only take a moment of your time. *steals your watch*

I disagree.
I think you are trying to draw attention and blame away from the PS3 and its continuing failure, by blaming the market.
In fact, check out this graph of the PS3 vs the PS3 vs the Wii in Japan, from launch, and you'll see that the only home console doing terribly in Japan is the PS2 and the 360.
In fact, for this time of year, for the Wii to consistantly put up 50k units, and for Mario Kart to sell 600k software units in one week, I'd say that the Japanese home console market is booming.

The handheld console sales have regularly doubled the conventional console sales in the last few months, so I think my claim is perfectly valid. Compared to America and Others, the Wii is selling badly in Japan as well.
We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls. The only thing that really worried me was the ether. There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke
It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...." Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson
Not much to say here live with the numbers and expect lousy sales the whole year.
The PS3 needs a redesign and a price cut in Japan to stay competitive. Sony also needs to make more Japanese oriented/ casual games if they want to snag consumers in the Japanese market at the moment.
I think to some degree Sony might be almost neglecting the market in favour of the much bigger and more proftable markets of NA and the EU.

the ps3 maybe dead but look at that psp its becoming pacman over there.
Incert Witty Comment on how i'm a fanboy of all systems including PC here.
i dont know whats up in japan. its crazy to see the ps3 that low, but i guess if there is no games for it then whats the point in getting one.

I think the bigger problem is that software sales outside of MH of all Sony systems are shrinking. The PS3 hasn't had a single title sell above 500k. MGS4 will probably break that streak, but only having one sustainable title in 2 years is not good.
