If WW Switch is basically aligned with PS4, why in Japan it is selling at over double the pace if not for portability being the major point in JAPAN?

Go ahead and make that thread. But don't be surprised when you get to hear that Sony's weak first party output is a bigger reason for the difference than portability. Software sells hardware, after all. Hence why the stationary PS4 sold better than the portable Vita.

Software does sale hardware, but hardware also plays a major role. Wii U is a prime example of that, it had some fantastic nintendo games yet is sold like the vita.

Great sales. How is it doing in comparison to the 3DS when aligned? At first I didn't think the Switch could go past 20m in Japan even though the 3DS did, since it's half portable half home console, but now I can see it happening.
Also, the switch has been consistently outselling the PS4 in the US as well if I'm not mistaken, and sales in Europe are great too (even though they haven't reached PS4 levels).
Is it possible that the Switch will ultimately outsell the PS4 lifetime?

Nintendo still have some tricks under their sleeves such as a Slimmer/cheaper version + Pro version and price drops.

The week SW of PS4 doesn't seem to have stopped PS4 to reach 100M

I dont get your question. Are you trying to say that Portability is NOT one of the reasons why the Switch is selling in Japan?

It is the main big reason. Basically the opposite of what the OP is trying to defend.

In the previous post you were talking about Japan. Now you don't want to talk about Japan anymore.

EDIT: A couple of links for the people who are interested in learning why Switch has sold so much faster than the PS4 in Japan.

Nintendo alone published more big hits in two years than Sony and all of their third party partners combined published through five years. Portability of the console helps, but it would be worthless without the games. It isn't as simple as saying that a Sony console would sell like a Nintendo console if the Sony console were portable, because at the end of the day it's the games that matter more than anything else.

Yes sure Rol, Playstation doesn't have good games, the rest of the world buy the consoles for the giggles.

Considering that it does exactly what it is supposed to do, allow me to continue the same games on the go that I play at home without the need to double dip or use multiple saves for multiple devices, it is not overrated at all really.  Between my downtime at work or killing time on long trips, it is nice to be able to double my play time without the need to try and play different games and jump back and forth.  It is the perfect device for the busy adult actually, which is why the ads target adults to begin with.

This is why I even buy all 3rd party games on Switch over my PS4 Pro.  I gain so much more from it in the end.

Glad u find it helpful for the portability the switch brought to u, but to me, whenever I'm outside on the go, I basically never touch any game things, I'd rather talk with my friends, or focus on things around me, things were totally different when I was a child though, the time I took my PSP or NDS everywhere I went are long gone. For me now, time on gaming only happens in my bedroom or living room where I can comfortably sit on the couch to relax from a full day study or work while enjoying the game on big screen, in that case, switch just seems not too impressive to me since I actually barely use it in handheld mode, the reason for me to buy a switch is simply Zelda and Pokemon or other N first party games, third party games for me are always going to PS4 pro, one X or even PC, bcz no matter on graphics or performance, those are all superior than switch making way better experience for gaming.

So what you are saying is that unless something fits YOUR needs and is tailor made for YOU personally, it is overrated and deserves to have its sales slowed?

Like damn everyone else's needs or desires, as your opinion is the only one that matters I guess.  😉

Even though i agree portability is a huge factor. Japan also prefers nintendo games heavily compared to any other developer.

Yeah I sort of agree. In Japan I would say 70% Portability 30% Games. While in the US it would be the opposite and leaning more to the Games side.

Wheres kingdom hearts 3 on the ps4 list? That ps4 list is just wrong. It was confirmed mhw sold over 3m but that list says 2.1m. And dont you think ps4 games would sell much better if ps4 was portable. Portability is the biggest reason why the switch is selling faster than the ps4 in japan

Edited. I really shouldn't post threads before my morning coffee, I am a zombie before I partake of the bean.

At a lot of the places where this has been posted the excuse of "of course it did, it's a portable" has been bandied about a lot, but I feel this is an oversimplification. After all, Vita being portable didn't stop the PS4 outselling it in Japan.

Yes let's compare the system that did 15M versus 100M globally because of reasons.

Do you really think if Switch was a full blown console it would have sold at over double the speed?

One could argue that the Switch is treated like a console. Nintendo themselves advertised the Switch as a home console first. Heck, consumers are awaiting games like Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, and Pokemon because they are getting the home console treatment (i.e., HD graphics, bigger scope/scale, etc.).

Plus, the pricing leans more towards home console than handheld. The big Nintendo games and most of the third party ports are priced at $60 and the Switch is priced at $300. The Wii sold like gangbusters at its launch price of $250. Granted both consoles are completely different in technological structure and power.
