Because at that point the game's stage hasn't even been set yet, unveiling Sephiroth that soon without even knowing what kind of threat he poses is bad writing and counter intuitive to first establishing why he's even having those flashbacka to begin with.

That's why.

That soon? We don't know when that flashback occured.
It certainly didn't look like it was in the same room as the scene that came before it.

This appears to be on some street next to a concrete pillar. And it's unclear if this is where Cloud has the flashback, or if this is where the flashback itself took place.
Some details of Cloud's encounters with Sephiroth from Before Crisis and Crisis Core should be expected in this game.
Can also be:

Spoiler!
Zack's memories.

Although keep in mind that this game is said to have extensive new content taking place in Midgar, that will flesh out characters like Biggs, Wedge, and Jesse, and let you visit all the different Sectors. So it would not necessarily be out of place to reveal a little bit more about Sephiroth at that point in the game, if we're going to spend that much more time in it.

You'ren looking at the point I'm trying to make. The point is that Sephiroth, for the sake of setting of the stage and putting importance of Sephiroth's/Clouds relationship into context - shouldn't be appearing in the game so soon regardless if it's the same scene or not. Sephiroth doesn't appear until you're a quarter through the game on the Junon Boat.

Why?

Because at that time, the stage had been set by the discovery of headless Jenova at Shinra HQ and Sephiroth's sword moments later. Which gave leeway to the importance of Clouds memory when they fill in the rest of the party (and the gamer) why Sephiroth being STILL alive is a big deal - despite Tifa and Cloud believing he had died years earlier.

THAT'S the point I'm trying to make...

Sephiroth doesn't appear that late in the game. His first appearance is in a flashback while Cloud tells the story of Nibelheim. This happens in the first town outside of Midgar, Kalm.

Right... I already clarified that much in the bolded characters. But let me make this SUPER specific so we don't all get hung up on small details.

What I meant to say, is that you don't meet Sephiroth in the flesh (so to speak) until the Junon Boat. I didn't use Kalm as an example because it's a flashback. I'm aware that the teaser trailer is insinuating it's also a flashback, but inserting a flashback at some point in Midgar is shitty writing - and does a piss poor job of setting the stage with Sephiroth as a character/villain.

Well, we can't say it's shitty writing until we actually see it. And for all we know, this is the flashback from Kalm.

You could be correct, and that would be about in line with what we'll get in the first episode of FF7R.

Well I mainly wanted to make it clear that we don't know when this scene occurs. It could be after they leave Midgar.

But even if it's not, depending on how extensive the Midgar portion of this game will be, it may even be more appropriate for the pacing of the story to introduce Sephiroth through a flashback while in Midgar, rather than when they arrive in Kalm.

To be super specific, you don't meet Sephiroth in the flesh in Junon either.

You're killing me smalls, I intentionally left out that info as to not spoil anything. There's gonna be a whole generation of kids who will be playing this for the first time. Just play dumb for the sake everyone lol.

4.5/10

Seems harsh but the best things they shown were MH/FFVII and they don't really add much, the MH stream right after was better and we knew that we probably would have seen more FFVII at E3. Why a small teaser for FFVII? Teasers should be for a new game. Imagine seeing a red haired women run trough a forest and hear a T-rex Roar.......Dino Crisis see more at E3 that's an great teaser. Predator was a good announcement but except for the name I am not excited for the game...:s. For sony it is lackluster and it should not be hard to make it better. I wish they still did PS2 games on PS4. Release more of them (the SMT games/persona etc) and announce them at state of play and people would be happy.

That animal game with the sugar glider looked very interesting, definitely something I'll be keeping an eye on! MediEvil releasing at Halloween is just perfect for it, and I'm SO FUCKING EXCITED!

... Final Fantasy VII Remake though; Oh damn! I wonder if we'll get a release date in June, but seeing more of it has just increased my hype even more, can't fucking wait!

hopefully they get he framerate sorted out... that game needs a solid 30fps t the very least

Remember Wild?

Wild looks better and they are still working on it but in the end could be vaporware

If you're under the impression that he doesn't even appear until "you're a quarter through the game", and convinced that the flashback happens in the reactor, then I can maybe see why you'd think that was shitty writing. But even then it would depend on how they develop the events of Midgar this time around.

"this time around"

That's a problem, because it doesn't need to go any other way. But it will, I have no doubt...

As for your wall of ranting, nothing I said gave away story elements that someone who's never played the game could piece together.

Spoiler!
But yours did. I pointed out time frames and characters that didn't give anything away other than when gamers FIRST ENCOUNTER Sephiroth in person, or at least that's what we all thought initially.
BUT NO, Here's you giving away an "oh snap"

moment like the fumbling forum poster that you are.

Spoiler!
Like, did you really think that all of us kids who played FF7 just magically forgot that it REALLY wasn't Sephiroth on the Junon Boat? Like dude, you didn't need to say that.

You're insight wasn't important, and sure as hell didn't elevate the conversation or bring a close to the debate. I'm sorry you had to clarify something we already knew.

Do you walk around telling everyone grass is green?

I mean its quite obvious that the MH stream itself was going to be better, why wouldn't it? Sony/ Capcom used SoP to basically advertise the MH stream for those who didn't know about it etc. Besides, Sony has (had) a marketing deal for MH, so why not show it?

The FF7 trailer has over 1 million views in 12 hours, and you question why they bothered?

'and people will be happy' - your opinion on the SoP doesn't represent everyone else. And Sony aren't going to use SoP to announce PS2 ports, that is what their blog is for.

For a 10 minute stream, not much to really complain about imho. I do wish the Predator reveal was meatier but they will probably have something soon (like previews they did for the VR stuff from SoP1)

Seems like it is still in active development which is good. Could end up skipping PS4 I reckon.

They can show it but doesn't really make it great for me seems pointless when we will see it soon and a lot more. Depends maybe if it is first party, I prefer how bethesda did it with their Fallout 4 show a teaser and six weeks later more. Almost half of state of play was MH/FFVII while it is only a 10 minute video it feels like filler. State of play felt very shallow but I guess we see more next month.
