Forums - General - What do you think of the UK?

As these seem to be en vogue at the moment, what do you think of the UK? The general perception here is that our Prime Minister is a laughing stock and the country's gone to shit. How do people in other countries perceive it? I'm not interested in misinformed stereotypes about British people, I just want to know what you think of our country and government and the perception your media gives you.

Some of you must think it's good judging by the immigration figures, but as immigrants are largely coming from Eastern Europe or the third world if I was from there I'd probably think the UK was pretty great too.

dude the weather is crazy over here, i mean snow in april??? what the hell?

In my opinion (and yes i live in england) i quite liked tony blair, no real reason why. but when it came to forign relations i think he was americas lap dog which really pissed me off. anyone remember that george michael video with cartoon tony blair and george bush??? but on the up side whenever those 2 were together tony blair always looked way smarter.

don't like gordon brown that much, but don't really know his politics. i also think we come up with some stupid laws, i mean congestion charging, what the hell. i also think gun crime and knife crime is stupidly high right now, and that our education system is failing and degrees are becoming more useless by the year along with A-levels and GCSE's

Five years ago I would say it is Americas lap dog (like youjiro said);

At this moment I don't know...I don't see at this moment why I don't like or dislike it.

The only thing that always causght my attention was how 'we don't belong to you' Uk looks.

I always compared it with a group of boys who are playing some soccer and then their is one boy sitting their on a bench doing the stuff what he likes...And don't want to play soccer with the others;..he wants to be his alone and special?

=p.

People will love you here for having a British accent. Taking a trip here probably would be a good way to pickup members of the opposite sex regardless of who you are and how you look.

It's funny how people say that. I read an article about how we seem to think we're the rebels of the EU but in fact we're the only ones who enact all the daft legislation and regulations that the European Parliament passes! Apparently other countries seem to pick and choose the bits which suit them.

Hmm not like rebels that sounds a bit negative...

Just being special uhm in like:

-Ride with cars on the left.
-Don't want Euro and stick with £
- Using other measuring standards (rails, feet etc).

It is not negative in my opinion :).

UK music >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> any other countries music.

That's all that really matters :).

Bad food, worse weather, Mary fuckin' Poppins.

I've always thought rebellion is a good thing

Crap, getting worse. Taxes are too high, benefits handed out willy nilly, crime very high, education system and NHS have both gone to the shit, MP's payed around 80% too much (they shouldnt earn more than people working at McDonalds - at least they get results), decripd infrastructure (many things such as sewage network or london roads) still based on victorian era design. Needless amounts of traffic calming, needless amounts of crappy legislations and under-funded police forces. Then again this is britian. I hate it. I have no intention of living, working or dying is this hell hole.
