Forums - Gaming Discussion - How are the people doing the top ten regional sales getting their digital numbers

I have been reading the top ten weekly sales from the different regions on Vgchartz and wonder how they are coming up with the top ten digital sales , this interests me since I hear that it is almost impossible to get clear numbers across the board.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Around the Network

I don’t know about that, I follow PlayStation Australia and every week they have a top 10 selling PS4 game for the week, both retail and digitally, there has been a big debate whether it includes micro transactions as part of a sale or not which I don’t think so as if it was the case free to play games like Fortnite and apex legends would be topping the charts every single week.

I mean, if you included a link so we knew what "top 10 regional sales" you were talking about that would help...

Anyways, platform specific ones are easy. Sony release monthly top 10s for digital sales for each region and I'd assume Microsoft/Nintendo do the same. Japanese digital sales are kind of tracked too, Famitsu releases some digital figures, although I think they only do it monthly (or possibly less often than that even) rather than weekly.

They are usually posted by William  on the front page of Vgchartz if no longer there ,  you can find them by clicking Articles at the top  then news.

There are a range of regions  Australia , New Zealand,  Swiss they have been showing up since late last year.

I found this and wonder why Vgchartz doesn't do something like this  https://igea.net/2018/12/igea-now-publishing-digital-full-game-downloads-charts/

Seems you answered the question of the thread yourself there

As for why VGC doesn't do something like that, they're just not big enough. They haven't got many sources for their sales, and IIRC they lost some recently which is why they're switching to tracking shipments instead of sales. They haven't got anybody to source digital data from and aren't big enough to change that.

IGEA is a team of 3 people, I  talked about this before, in the thread when the changes to software was brought up , and I was left with the opinion that what's holding any real progress is this area is to do with how ioi views Vgchartz  it makes him a profit but he isn't interested in spending money on it , my suggestion was approach Sony MS etc  at least that way you would get the lay of the land and don't lose anything.
