Forums - Nintendo - When is Mario Tennis Wii Coming?

imo Mario Tennis has always been the best Mario Sports franchise, and I have not heard about a Wii installment. This game sell millions (3-4 million) because of the Motion controls and it would tap into the casual WiiSports crowd in a major way(Mario + Tennis + Wii = surefire success).

I would hope that it is similiar to WiiSports tennis in gameplay mechanics, but it would be deeper, and have some sort of a cheesy story mode.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

Like Sega Tennis only better? No idea, not until next year I'd guess.

I believe Camelot said that Mario Tennis was one of the franchises they really wanted to work on this gen, but it wasn't the first on their list.

So not untill mid 2009 or later probably.

I've been holding out for Mario Tennis. I almost got Sonic Superstars Tennis, but when I found out the motion was the equivalent of a button press, I said forget it.

They should use the Joystick on the nunchuck for movement, wiimote swing for racket swing speed and if its a lob or whatnot. Use A/B for spin (might be tough to do with the motion sensors), using timing to control angle, and there you go. Maybe have Z do dives, and press down on the D-pad to do special moves.

Since Mario Baseball is coming out this year, I expect the next sports game to come out early 09 whether its golf or tennis I don't have a clue.

If you drop a PS3 right on top of a Wii, it would definitely defeat it. Not so sure about the Xbox360. - mancandy

The Mario Golf console team is making We Love Golf (so buy it). DS did get a golf game, True Swing Golf (and it only costs $5-$10).

Nintendo is putting out Mario Baseball and there is the above mentioned golf game this year. That plus Wii Fit is good for casual (or fanboy) sport game fans.

I wonder if Nintendo can make a good tennis game using the Wii mote
to do drop-shots, volleys, topspin etc.
