Forums - Nintendo - Mario Kart - Nintendo's biggest UK launch

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=186900

Mario Kart Wii has sold by the bucket load over the weekend, making it Nintendo UK's largest first-party launch, ever.

The title has knocked Sony's rival racer Gran Turismo 5 Prologue off the top spot of the All Formats Chart says Next-Gen.

If you total up the first week takings of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario, you still wouldn't come close to the number of units Mario Kart Wii has sold.

For those interested in seeing what else Mario Kart fired a barrage of red shells at, here's the full chart for the week:

  1. Mario Kart Wii - Nintendo
  2. Gran Turismo 5: Prologue - Sony
  3. Mario & Sonic at The Olympic games - Sega
  4. Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 - Konami
  5. Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 - Ubisoft
  6. Condemned 2 - Sega
  7. Wii Play - Nintendo
  8. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock - Activision
  9. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare - Activision
  10. Carnival - Funfair Games - 2K Play

"If you total up the first week takings of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario, you still wouldn't come close to the number of units Mario Kart Wii has sold."

.... Or maybe more... 2 M maybe?

end of core gaming days prediction:

E3 2006-The beginning of the end. Wii introduced

E3 2008- Armageddon. Wii motion plus introduced. Wii Music. Reggie says Animal crossing was a core game. Massive disappointment. many Wii core gamers selling their Wii.

It's not anything more than had been already stated in last PAL thread.

@yushire: Yeah, 5 milions.

But for real, it was around 200k for UK, so something like 500-600k for all Europe.

err.... OK? So this article is misleading then "If you total up the first week takings of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games, Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Strikers, Mario Party 8 and Super Paper Mario, you still wouldn't come close to the number of units Mario Kart Wii has sold."

@yushire: If you have UK first week sales for those games than you can say if it's misleading or not. But as far as I know you don't.
Anyway the fact that Mario Kart is 8th best launch let us predict it's sales quite accuratly (as I said it's around 200k). For details check last PAL chart.

And even if you add all numbers for those games in Others (which article says nothing about) you will get only a little over 400k.

So Mario Party 8 only sold 30,000 + in ohers thats a shame. And i thought its like the american or Japan's first week. OH WELL...

BTW, theres no others chart posted here last year so I would never known Im a frequent visitor here even before i posted here
