Technical prowess without artistic direction is fugly. Look up the uncanny valley and you will understand why. If you want three different arguements, start three different topics.

Uncanney valley means the most reasiltic game we can make is the ugliest we have. Artistic direction and graphics go hand in hand if you want anything worth looking at.
When most people talk about graphics they are usually reffering to Technically or most realistic. So I think most would art is seprate from graphics even though by defintion its all graphics (anything the titles, credits, subtitles, announcements, etc., shown on the screen before, or as part of, a film or television program basically any recreation or repesentation)

Just my opinion,
1. For the sake of simplification art direction should lie within the category of graphics.
2. Motion sensing is definitely the future. The Wiimote, the Sixaxis, the Newton and the Waggle reflect this.
3. I don't care.
1. I'd say artistic direction is way more important than technical prowess, so yes, artistic direction should be included.
2. Well, yes. Do you still need to ask this? The Wii is the best selling console ever and Sony and Microsoft both showed interest in motion sensors. More importantly, dual analog control is archaic and most of the time completely inferior to motion sensing controls.
3. Meh.
Art direction should be always considered part of "graphics". I mean, you don't separate audio quality from the soundtrack. Anything that your eyes see, should be considered under graphics. If I see a crappy font, -1 for graphics. If I see horrible color choices, -1 for graphics. And so on.

No. You should have created 3 topics if you wanted that.

I second that.

But when judging quality of water, you don't judge how good the Hydrogen is and how good the Oxygen is.
And, where is the end of the Oxygen and the start of the Hydrogen? Most people don't understand what they are looking at when judging the technical part of graphics and wouldn't be able to tell what goes on which department. How many of the people here would know what's Diffuse Lighting without looking at wikipedia? Or High-Dynamic Range Rendering? Sometimes, not even the "professionals" from videogame sites know about that stuff.
