I wonder what type of card and how much it costs to acheive console framerates at 720p and 1080p or there abouts. Call of duty IV - 1280/1024 @ 60fps, thanks techreport.com You need a $130 GPU to run at 4xAA and 16xAF @60fps average. At 1920/1200@60fps with the same you need an sli setup. Lowest costs of entry are 2x 9600gt for 130each(260 with MIR) or a 3870x2 for 360 (With MIR) Bioshock - Thanks techarp.com. One 9600gt is enough through all resolutions. thats $130 with MIR from Newegg. So pretty much simple conclusion. One $130 card will beat or match any consoles graphically. Two will obliterate them. Sorry, just quick and dirty. Didn't have the time to do more. This is interesting as we're due for the next cards, AMD's next architecture may come as early as may.

Don't forget the rest of the computer, a video card by itself will do nothing.

Not to mention a computer isn't very good for having friends over and playing together.

There are many advantages to having a console over a PC, and price is one of them unless you're a crazy overclocker.

let's be serious here. Buying a console will guarantee you to have at least 5+ years of playing the newest game on that console.

Can you say that to a PC that costs around the same price?

That is why console sales are up, while PC gaming are down.

My 4 year old rig still plays most things. It cost less then a hd tv and ps3. Not that its anywhere near as powerful but it is 4 going on 5 years old now :P

Thats a pretty ignorant statement. When the PS3 came out at 600 bucks, I could easily make a 5+ year gaming computer not counting the monitor with that amount. Great thing about the computer is that virtually all software made on it scales. Crysis on medium is still technically better than anything you got on consoles.

Furthermore, if your smart you wouldnt spend the same amount of money on a computer as a PS3. In general the better computer you get now, the more money you'll save for not having to upgrade later down the line. So if you're serious about making a gaming PC, then yes, your computer will be guaranteed to play all the newest games.

Also, PC gaming industry is going up, or have you not been paying attention at all.
