Forums - Sony - Why is Gran Turismo so popular?

Racing sims are just boring. I mean sure its real cars and I could see how if you are insecure with your masculinity and replace it with the love of shiny metal, how you could love that game. But otherwise there is absolutely not significant action in that game. It's all about substance in racing sims with nothing on the inside. A hollow diamond.

I really can't stand sims of anything, which is why I didn't like Skate, or any sim sports.

The last time I was impressed with a racing game was Ridge Racer on the ps1.
So.. *shrug*

The first three Gran Turismo's at least were without peer. However, the formula is getting stale, and the series is in desperate need of innovation. Obviously, given the sales of Prologue a huge fanbase still exists, but with similar games like Project Gotham and Forza, the extensive car selection and simulation aspects that have always been associated with the series are no longer exlusive to it or quite so novel. Furthermore, it has fallen behind in some respects such as damage and exotic car options in particular. GT5 will still be a huge success for Sony nevertheless, which is somewhat baffling IMO.

No idea, beautiful snorefest...

I thought more people would jump in to declare their undying love for this game... weird

anyone that says its boring, i have to say your just an idiot. if you say you truly dont care for racing or the game then thats cool. im not a huge fan of RPGs. you have to look at what the game is designed for, and its not designed as an arcade game which most people think. its designed to be as realistic as possible so you can actually learn how to drive a race car. get a race wheel, some kind of cockpit, crank the sound and tell me its not addicting trying to beat your last lap times.

@ sailordude

So that lack of damage or any form of penalty for bulldozing into competitors is realistic?

Relax dude...no one is stepping on your toes here.

Besides, if you wanna get your mind blown you would get a racing wheel and a 60 inch TV with surround sound and play Burnout or Wipeout.

I admit that there is a realism factor to the game that is kinda exciting but not nearly as exciting as taking your own car as crappy as it may be to a local track and trying to beat your lap times there...

Do you seriously believe that?? as much as call of duty turns us all into soldiers and guitar hero into rock stars, it's still a game, and until i can buy my porsche with a dualshock 3 instead of a steering wheel, i'll say it's NOT realistic and that it does NOT teach you how to drive
