Forums - Gaming - Finally! Nintendo gives us online play.

Im aware, that there's already another Mario strikers charged thread, but i think the fact that Nintendo now finally allows us to play online in PvP matches is worth its own thread.

Besides the fact that im really excited to be able to play online now, I really like Mario strikers as a game. I haven't played it alot, just picked it up yesterday (even before the official release).

I played alot of DOA4 online on my friend's X-box 360, so I'm going to compare the two online modes:

DOA:

  • Chatting with head-set possible (though there's mostly trash-talking goin on)
  • You join a lobby and wait til its your turn to fight the winner ( ALOT of waiting unless you win all the time or you join a "loser stays" lobby:)
  • you can set a lot of filter options in your lobby
  • PvP all over the world
  • only 1 player can play online

MSC:

  • No chatting, in fact no communication at all possible.
  • you always get a random opponent, theres no lobby (NO waiting, which is superb)
  • there's no options to set, all the settings are fixed
  • PvP only in your continent/region
  • 2 players can play online!

As you see, there's plenty of differences. I don't really miss the chatting feature, but i'm abit disappointed that you cannot set any options (e.g. an online match is always a best of 3 series)

i just LOVE the fact that you can play online with a friend in the same team. Didn't try that yet, but tonight i sure will. Generally MSC seemed less laggy than DOA, but this is sure caused by the fact that there's no overseas PvP possible.

Generally I love the new feature. I don't really care about the missing voice-chat and friend-code stuff, I don't want to make new friends in online games anyway (I prefer real friends).

In the US, Pokemon Battle Revolution is the first online game, I wonder if that allows to play against random people online...

Nobody is crazy enough to accuse me of being sane.

Im really excited by all this.

Both MS & Sony have been online for years - this is the first time a Nintendo console (ignoring the DS) gets online, and I do think its going to open up a whole new world of features and enjoyment for Ninty games.

Just about every one of their games could potentially go online (sooner or later), and there is just so much potential... I hope Mario Party (next year) goes online, I think that would rock.

Watched a couple of vids of Pokemon (Wii), and that looks great as well (although shallow).

I wish I could agree, but I live in the 33% of Americans who can't get a real broadband connection. :(

You too? It's just maddening, espeically seeing those Hughesnet commericals all the time. I can tell you from first hand experience thier full of crap.

About changing options in Strikers. I think you can change thhe settings, but only in non-ranked matches against friends, which means you'd need thier friend code first.

I have Hugesnet, and while it's good for downloading, the way the newer satellite recievers work it won't allow many types of direct connections, besides the fact that your ping is going to be at least 1500ms. I get to pay $70 a month for the not-so-nice-luxury of 375mb a day download limit. :(

Someone else whose stuck on Hughesnet! I feel you're pain, I pay $60 for a 200mb a day download limit, and apparently watching crap from YouTube = downloads. =P

AAARGHG! It's not working anymore!! It worked well yesterday, but today I cannot login to the Server anymore. I always get the error message: Cannot get stats. I've Tried it at a friends place and at home... same result. Is anyone able to play strikers online right now?
