Sorry to say but most PC guys would agree Nini is not the best developer. There are indie devs that top Nini easily.

Donkey Kong was released before Apple Panic, also in 1981. Space Panic wasn't a true platformer given that you could not jump.

 you sure... i could have sworn that Apple Panic was released a few months before. Also there is Frog... that was before Apple Panic =P geez... make me use me knowledge of old games.

I guess it all comes down to how you define 'platformer'. Frogs had some platforming elements (side scrolling and you could jump) but it did not involve jumping between platforms and you couldn't control the direction you jumped in so I don't know if it could be considered the first platformer.

ea is good. why is everyone always bitchy about them

 you got to be kidding, they are one of the evil corps of the industry.

So in Conclusion. EA has stated that they want to be the one company that people are most likely to associate with in a POSITIVE way when they think about Videogames.

Regardless of quality of individual games, size of company or personal tastes, that position currently is undeniably held by Nintendo.

And EA isn't going to take that title any time soon. Another company might, but it sure won't be EA.
