Forums - Politics - Trump Star removed from the walk of fame

He is the president, how can he be disrespected like this? In the past being the President was a position of great respect. Now because half the country doesnt agree with this one, all of a sudden it's ok to bully him and disrespect him like this? Yeah he's a pretty bad president, but so was GWB (and he wasnt treated like this. Bullying isn't right, even if its the president. He's a huge celebrity and obviously belongs there.

Trump doesn't respect anyone but himself. He doesn't respect his people, he doesn't respect the people of other nations, he doesn't even respect the leaders of other nations. If a president has so little respect for anyone in the world, there is no reason to respect him either. At least that's how I see it.

That said, removing the star from the walk of fame isn't neccessary. Trump supporters will just get angry again and it does nothing to bring people back together. It just continues to harden the fronts and I don't think that's a good thing. Just ignore small shit like that and concentrate on the real issues.

President of the US should be above respect, especially towards Americans who are already his people anyway. He's the most powerful man on earth, there isn't any authority above him. Respect is for people under higher authorities.

Respect begets respect.

Among equals, absolutely. But one should respect their authorities regardless of the respect they show you. kids should show respect to their parents regardless of circumstances (except for extremes and trump isnt quite one) We're all the presidents people and we should be happy that we're allowed to express disagreement, but lets not forget that in many societies we'd be in jail for the kind of disrespect being shown here.

So which one is it? OP says it's been removed, although not sure what it says in the source he's given since oddly enough it's in Spanish, why not find an English source reporting on its removal? But then pokoko comes with one that clearly says it HASN'T been removed, bu that they want the Hollywood Chamber of Secrets/Commerce to CONSIDER removing it.

If anyone can provide more sources backing either of these up, it'll help make a decision on what to do with this thread, because as someone who has no idea about the going offs and happenings in America right now, this seems like "fake news", lol.

The New York Post story I linked is from today, August 7th.

This story, from the Washington Post, is also from today:

Duran acknowledges that the resolution is, at this point, purely symbolic. Leron Gubler, the president of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, which oversees the Walk of Fame, said in a statement to CNN that it will refer the issue to the group’s executive committee for consideration at its next meeting. “As of now, there are no plans to remove any stars from the Hollywood Walk of Fame,” Gubler said.

Despite previous demands to remove Cosby’s and Trump’s stars, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has refused to do so.

“The answer is no,” Gubler said in 2015 in response to inquiries about the Cosby and Trump stars. “The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk.”

The OP, at the very least, needs to show some collaborating sources or redo the entire thing.

Congress would be in charge of that.

But it would be more about not raising taxes on Hollywood, but removing the insane tax breaks Hollywood gets.

Of course that would just lead to them making their movies in like Canada or somewhere that would give them tax breaks. Meanwhile those same people would still stand on their soap boxes and preach about how the rich need to pay their fair share.

Those tax breaks are state and local.  Not federal.

All I did was point out that the President is not in charge of taxes but congress is. They could make a special federal tax for Hollywood.

I then pointed out the hypocrisy of Hollywood. They preach about people needing to pay their fair share and yet they go out of their way to pay the least amount of taxes (like everyone else) and also have the biggest tax breaks out of everyone.

With the mayor saying "horcrux destroyed"

I guess it is a good behavior in this case right?

Would Trump retaliate and decide to sky raise taxes for movies or anything that would displease the Hollywood folks in their ivory towers?

You have another source for this?  Because this is what I'm reading:

The council will send a formal letter to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, the Los Angeles City Council and the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to consider removing it.

But, according to a statement from the chamber, it’s unlikely it will act.

“The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a registered historic landmark. Once a star has been added to the Walk, it is considered a part of the historic fabric of the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Because of this, we have never removed a star from the Walk,” said Leron Gubler, the organization’s president and CEO.

Last I saw was an article last week about someone taking an axe to Trump star and it being destroyed. It's the 2nd or 3rd time that has happened. I imagine they have to replace it on their own dime (The walk that is)

FYI, the Hollywood walk of fame star is not something you win/earn. You pay for it. Now sure, joe blow can't go and get a star, but any decent celebrity can, all they have to do is pay for one. It's not some prestigious award you win, or like being inducted into the hall of fame or anything.

You do realize the president serves us, we don't serve him.....right?

The president (should) serve the good of the country. In exchange his citizens should serve him. A president sacrifices for his country but in return he expects his constituents to obey him. Now Trump probably isnt doing much, if any good for the country, but just because he is a jack*** doesn't mean that we should stoop to that same level. We're still his people.

But it's still Congress that levies taxes, not the president.

No, we're both understanding this part.  I'm just trying to understand how IRStupid expects Trump to force a Hollywood tax when Congress controls taxation.

Work on your reading comprehension.

I never said Trump could force a tax.
