Forums - Sony Discussion - PlayStation Nation | an HBO original

Apparently, Sony increased their midrange investment from 18.3B to 30B, with about 1.5B used for stock buybacks. While it is for the entirety of Sony, I think its safe to say PlayStation will get a bulk of that, which opens up a lot of options for SIE.

Some people were combining their capital expenditure and their strategic investment.

Last year they were aiming to spend over the next few years 2 trillion+ yen in strategic investments, and 1.5 trillion in capital expenditure and 300 billion in dividends.

For this year, they are aiming to spend over the next few years 2 trillion+ yen in strategic investments, 1.7 trillion in capital expenditure and 300 billion in dividends.

I'm not sure why that got mixed up, they shared the same information in the report last year.

So their plans for investment haven't changed. But it's important to remember these are minimums they are expecting.

It's toward the end:

Some other interesting points from the report:

- Bungie is expected to close, near the end of the year (October-December)

- Sony is aiming to increase first party development costs by $300 million this year, which seems substantial.

- they are forecasting 18 million PS5's sold in the next year.

I'm pleasantly surprised about their FY22 PS5 projection. I was expecting 15M PS5's as the best case scenario. Hopefully I can finally get one lol.

Considering the bolded, it definitely sounds substantial, especially with how aggressive Sony has been the past year. Sony is expecting an increase of 7B in revenue for FY22, which is a bold target even with improved PS5 supply, stronger first party software sales, PSVR2 launch, Destiny 2, and the PS+ revamp that would significantly boost YoY revenue.

I think it hints at another major buyout larger in scope than Bungie. Last year, Sony used similar verbiage in their previous FY report, stating they were "going to increase first party development by $189 Million for the next fiscal year," and that ended up being Bungie.

Acquisition talks aside..

New Gotham Knights gameplay, with Nightwing and Red Hood -

I was really looking foward to this.. but my hype is kinda gone, the combat looks really janky and floaty. Hmm, consider me on the fence on picking this up. Will wait for reviews first. What do you guys think?

I didn't dig the Gotham Knights demo at all either lol. I'm so used to the free flow combat of the Arkham series and the combat here seemed heavy and sluggish for Red Hood then janky and floaty for Nightwing.

I thought they were showing what the game looked like on last-gen consoles, but then I read it'll be a current-gen only game. So there's a lot of things going against it. Which reading the youtube comments and twitter, many feel the same way. So it'll definitely be a title I will wait and see what the overall consensus is before diving in.

WB Games Montreal has more or less been a black sheep for WB gaming division, so they have a lot to prove with this release.

I'm thrilled this game ditched the PS4/Xbox One. Pretty much what I expect from the gameplay.

But even with good reviews, this is an unlikely Day One buy for me, even if I got a PS5 in the summer, due to the amount of games I'm more excited for (R&C, HFW, GoW, Hogwarts Legacy, Guardians of the Galaxy, FF16, etc).

Rumors of Hogwarts Legacy getting delayed to 2023 is apparently making its ways online

If true, I wonder if the devs will be dropping last-gen consoles like Gotham Knights is.

Hopefully not true.

...to avoid getting banned for inactivity, I may have to resort to comments that are of a lower overall quality and or beneath my moral standards.

Yeah something is 'off' with the combat. Its like they asset swapped Batman without taking into consideration of models and the movement looks awkward. I'd assume it has something to do with them trying to balance the game for the four playable characters and have slowed some movements down, and combos to compensate for it. Idk, I just looked at some AK footage and the free-flow looks much better than here. In the previous Arkham games the movesets are more flowing and fast. Though that was strictly a single player game, without the need to worry about balancing issues.

Idk its giving me bad Avengers vibes lol.

True, its good some devs aren't afraid to drop other platforms if it means its better for it.

And yeah thats probably a good idea. Atm it looks quite rough.. I mean I can't imagine it being a bad game though its not looking like a day one for me either. There's a lot of decent games to catch up on when you get your PS5. Even upgraded PS4 games > PS5. I have my fingers crossed that we get both FF16 and GoW this year.

IDK what these projections mean? But they seem very positive, and since you're better at this field I guess I should agree Sony can afford a larger buyout than Bungie? Which is what I want, and the target I want is Square Enix or Company that has most of their studios being healthy make waves as much as Zenimax/Bethesda did for Microsoft? What's your target?

Ideally? Sony acquires Capcom and Square Enix.

They would get tentpole IP, legacy content, multimedia utility, a diverse catalog, and popular multiplayer games. This is essentially organic growth on a much larger scale. It would ensure Sony has enough content to maintain/attract a platform of 100M+ users even if they lose publishers like Ubisoft, Take Two Interactive, Warner Brothers, etc.

I recently got into the Metro series due to some recent sales. I beat Metro 2033 a few months ago and have recently started Metro Exodus.

So far I'm loving the story, atmosphere, and the survival aspects of it, but it made me realize how I much I enjoy semi open world design in video games. It gives the game a sense of scale while still telling a tightly crafted narrative. TLOU Part II is the only other game from recent memory that does what Metro Exodus is doing with its level design.
