Interesting article with Jim Ryan today.

https://tass.com/economy/1225233

Pretty good read but the 2 sections that stuck out to me was:

"So how did you feel about Microsoft offering to buy Zenimax/Besthesda? Is there a possibility that PlayStation gamers will not be able to play the next Elder Scrolls game or Starfield?

- That’s a decision that is out of our hands, we’ll wait and see what happens. I look forward to learning about that. We just take a different approach. Our emphasis has been to focus on really steady, slow, but constant organic growth of our studios, selectively bolstered by acquisitions. We respect the steps taken by our competition, they seem logical and sensible. But we’re equally happy and confident, we’ve got a better launch lineup than we’ve ever had at any of our console launches."

"How will you respond to Microsoft’s Game Pass?

- There is actually news to come, but just not today. We have PlayStation Now which is our subscription service, and that is available in a number of markets."

I finally got my PS5 today. I don't remember being this excited about my first few hours with PS4 and I think it's due to the combination of DualSense, no loading, 60fps and of course the games (I haven't spent time with the UI yet).

Like hinch said, Astro needs to be experienced. If DualSense isn't innovation, I don't know what is. The game is quite special for long-time PS users and I'm sitting here wanting more. Might have to buy Sackboy as it seems like a lot of fun as well.

Demon's Souls is also pretty amazing so far (only played 30 minutes). I have the original on PS3 but 60fps is something else. It might be difficult going back to 30fps in most genres and I hope devs include a 60fps mode going forward.

Besides DS, I ended up buying AC Valhalla. I haven't played it yet but after seeing Digital Foundry's coverage, I had to support that solid 60fps (and that Norwegian setting ). It seems like Ubisoft did a great job in spite of the Anvil engine.

The mic in the controller isn't that great and I'm disappointed that Cyberpunk will now be a 2021 game for me (the latest trailers and it being 30fps tell me that I have to wait for the dedicated PS5 release). But besides from that, PS5 is firing on all cylinders.

It turns out Mark Cerny wasn't bullshitting when he said that we shouldn't rely solely on teraflops and CU count. That ingenious son of a gun.

Glad you're enjoying your new toy. The whole console feels so quick and snappy compared to PS4. Like the PS store is worlds apart in terms of loading (as hardly any). UI could do with some tweaking to make it a bit more intuitive to use, but other than that its darn great.

Talking about Astro's Playroom. That game sold me on Astro Bot Rescue Mission. There's an EU sale right now and its on there among other stuff :).

You luck bastards. Enjoy your purchase.

Same. Though I'll try to wait for PSVR2. Should come within a few years.

Thanks Don. Sucks with the crazy taxes in BR. Was it you or Bra that planned to grab a PS5 on a trip to the US?

I still plan to get it around April next year if my annual business trip is maintained (mainly needs COVID to get its vaccine before this is back on track), BraLoD was planning on buying in Brazil if his cumulative coupons worked (he would end up paying close enough to USA prices after USA taxes and dolar conversion + monetary conversion taxes) that it would be worthy... but one of the coupons didn't work so he is on waiting mode.

Hey guys.

I didn't think I'd actually manage to snag one of these at retail price but I got really lucky on Wednesday and checked PS direct right as the queue went live (granted, I had been refreshing it all week long, but I was lucky enough to check within just a few moments of going live). My queue time initially said <1 minute, then changed to 3 mins, then eventually to >1 hour.

About 20 minutes later, my queue meter had barely budged, still more than an hour to wait, but then it randomly filled up and said it was my turn. I booked it through the checkout process and managed to get my new PS5.

Never posted a pic on here, but here is my kiddos next to the PS5 box. I'm currently doing a save data transfer from my PS4 for the next hour or two, and then plan to download Demon's Souls. Been so happy today!!!

Edit: Fixing carriage returns.

Congrats and enjoy it with pretty family.

Admittedly, there aren't a ton of launch games that I've super interested in. I'm very curious about existing PS4 games that might be playable now in 4K or better optimized. Does TLOU2 or Red Dead have any such optimizations.About the current launch games, my wife enjoys the Assassin's Creed games but I could never get into them very much. I've been playing a lot of Bugsnax already, and may get the Spiderman game as well.

Edit: Thanks for the kind words, Don. :)

(Seems to be an issue with posting new lines in my messages. I imagine devs are aware of this.)
