Forums - Gaming - Worried about possibly too much gameplay in MGS4.

Watch a movie if you only care about cut scenes. I agree with the guy above that 10 hours is not very long at all. A cut scene should be the cherry on the sundae and add to the experience. Not be the experience. What exactly do you want? Do you want to play for five minutes and then to sit back and relax for five minutes while having a cocktail? I guess that would be harcdore since I don't know what that means anymore.

The reason I don't watch movies instead is because they're only 1-2, max 3 hours long and besides most of them sucking you just can't fit the amount of content into a 2 hour movie as you can into a game with 6-7 hours of cutscenes (MGS) So I prefer games with a crapload of cutscenes than movies that just don't have the length for really in depth storytelling.

Then go watch some anime or TV series. A 24 episode anime will have alot more room for story telling than a 10 hour game.

I do watch anime, but none of them really compare to MGS. They try to sound intelligent but most of them try too hard and do too little, appearing a little ridiculous. There's like some code of ethics in Japan that every anime or JRPG must have a little philosophy thrown into the mix just for the hell of it, but outside MGS and Ghost in the shell 2, none of them have pulled off sounding mature without seeming childishly stupid. Everything on TV tends to treat you like your some brain idiot who couldn't handle a plot more in depth than the Superhero movie or Crossroads with Ms Spears.

This first became a problem with MGS3. It was the longest game in the series with a solid 10 hour of gameplay, sometimes 20 or more minutes of gameplay straight without cutscenes inbetween. This continued with Portable Ops and most recently we see in Po+ how gameplay has taken an almost priority. While it has been confirmed that MGS4 will have the most cutscenes in the series, more than even MGS2, Ryan has also made it rather clear that it will also have the most gameplay -Even more than MGS3.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited for this game especially since the plot will be similar to MGS2, but I till can't help but feel uneasy when I think about this game having even more gameplay than MGS3. I think MGS2 had the perfect balance with 50% cutscene and 50% gameplay, though MGS1 also had a fine blend of two. I hope they don't overdo it in the gameplay department with MGS4 and keep it as movie-esque as number 2 and 1. 10 hour of gameplay with 10 hours of cutscenes would be the perfect length.

Anyone else have similar concerns?

So let me know if I'm understanding this correctly: you're worried that there *might* be too much gameplay in a game and not enough movie? You want your game to be inturrupted by at most every 20 minutes?

So why are you playing games and just not watching a movie?

-edit-

If you want more than two hours then just go buy a season of 24 or something like that.  You get 12 hours of movie for the same price and it might as well be the same thing.

^^ Movies don´t have cutscenes....

I'm not sure if it's intentional, but OP is the funniest thing I've read all day.

A game with too much gameplay? This is some TheOnion-class stuff we got here. ^^

That's kinda why I wonder if Billy has taken advantage of his fame from his initial topic, and turned it into a sort of joke account to say ridiculous things such as "I'm worried that MGS4 might have too much gameplay" or "I do watch anime, but none of them really compare to MGS. They try to sound intelligent but most of them try too hard and do too little, appearing a little ridiculous". It's good for a laugh, but then you wonder if he's serious.

That's about as bluntly as I can put it.

What if you want to play a movie or watch a game? Hmmm..? :P
