Forums - Gaming - Worried about possibly too much gameplay in MGS4.

@billy07,

- if MGs4 is similar to MGS2 it is because of the story scale more than the gameplay/cutscene ratio

- MGS4 gameplay improvement does mean MORE gameplay,
it means BETTER gameplay, DEEPER gameplay.

- whatever, more gameplay = longer game = better game
Well some previews have already noted that MGS4 makes a frequent use of sometimes long cutscenes remenicent of MGS2 so that does give me some room for comfort.

Less game in you game and more movie in your game??

What´s next more gameplay with your movies and less music with your songs?

It´s a game it´s all about the gameplay and the cutscenes are great addition but that all they are additins to the story telling gameplay.

I think I will go watch TV with less television and more radio.

I think I see what Billy is trying to get at, and I agree. If a game is trying to tell a story it needs to have cut scence in the right place at the right time. Many games suffer from long repetitive gameplay sesions with cut-scence spread out much to far (FFXII, and Assasins Creed). I think Kojima will do a great job of impliminting the cutscence so that it is a great ride all the way through.

so far the gameplay in mgs2 has been way more than cutscens

The mgs series is know for having long cutscenes so its not like you dont know what youre getting into.. The game is supposedly a 50 gig bluray disc long so i imagine theres plenty to play and watch/

:)

so you actually want some sort of game/movie hybrid,
well Metal Geas Solid is already actuall a game/movie experience,
but you want even more movie in it..
well let's trust Konami,
they must be knowing what they're doing,
I wouldn't want to see a overkill of cutscenes..

This first became a problem with MGS3. It was the longest game in the series with a solid 10 hour of gameplay, sometimes 20 or more minutes of gameplay straight without cutscenes inbetween. This continued with Portable Ops and most recently we see in Po+ how gameplay has taken an almost priority. While it has been confirmed that MGS4 will have the most cutscenes in the series, more than even MGS2, Ryan has also made it rather clear that it will also have the most gameplay -Even more than MGS3.

Don't get me wrong, I'm really excited for this game especially since the plot will be similar to MGS2, but I till can't help but feel uneasy when I think about this game having even more gameplay than MGS3. I think MGS2 had the perfect balance with 50% cutscene and 50% gameplay, though MGS1 also had a fine blend of two. I hope they don't overdo it in the gameplay department with MGS4 and keep it as movie-esque as number 2 and 1. 10 hour of gameplay with 10 hours of cutscenes would be the perfect length.

Anyone else have similar concerns?

My concerns for games is that they won't have enough gameplay, 10 hours is nothing, I like games that take more than 2 days to beat, especially for FPS, I can't really stand going back and playing through FPS's, especially short ones, so I like a lengthy game, to me it makes it more valuable, and if I'm going to pay $60 for a game it damn well better be worth it.

I'd agree on the cutscene thing though, I loved Uncharted because it was like playing a movie, and really made the game more enjoyable and kept me on my toes.

More gameplay in MGS4 will be for the better. Wading through MGS2's cut-scenes and codec sequences were a little annoying. MGS3 had a better balance and while it still had some long cut-scenes, I think that they were much cooler than MGS2's.

I brought MGS2 out and tried to play it again. All I can say is wow.... the codec/cutscenes could have been toned down a little bit. Starting out the Big Shell was tedious mashing on X or Triangle (to skip either cut-scene or codec).
