Forums - General - Dragonlance-- the animated movie.

So I rented Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight and didn't expect anything spectacular but figured it would be a good time waster. I think the thing that really made me decide to rent it was that it had Keifer Sutherland as Raistlin and I just had to see that.

Surprisingly, it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. It's been more than 10 years since I read the book but I'm pretty sure in the short 90 minutes they did a pretty good job on the story. They hit everything I remembered, hit the things I forgot about, and even told it fairly well. Hell, even Keifer Sutherland did a pretty good job as Raistlin.

The disappointing point were the visuals. Now the animation parts looked like an old 80's cartoon and I'm cool with that. It was that stiff animation and even kind of had that old Hobbit cartoon look to it. There were mistakes everywhere in it but it was still pretty good on that part. The part that sucked was the computer animation parts stuck all throughout.

These things were just god awful. They in no way at all fit with the animation and they just weren't that good to begin with. All the dragons and draconians were computer animated along with things like fire and other little things and they all just looked like shit. There was one point where there were a few hundred draconians cheering and they had each one of them doing the same exact animation in sync with each other and it was so terrible.

If they would have just ditched the horrible computer animated parts I actually probably would have really enjoyed this but the computer animation parts were just so bad.

Has anyone else seen this?

-edit-

Here's the trailer. You don't get a good feel for how shitty the computer animation parts are but you get to see the awesome 80's style animation going on.

Around the Network

huh. Interesting that I didn't know about this movie since I used to read the Dragonlance books. The CGI does look awful, but I always was a sucker for 80's animation. Well, at least Nelvana's stuff (Go Canada!) You ever seen Rock and Rule?
