Forums - Gaming Discussion - Could KH3 beat God Of War even if it would release only on PS4?

Just looking at previous sales (according to the numbers on this site).

KH 6.4m
KH2 4.3m

GoW 4.5m
GoW2 4.1m
GoW3 4.8m

The first Kingdom Hearts was the most popular, but they are roughly in the same ballpark on the other games. I think I've got to give it to KH3, but it would be pretty close.

Except that GoW will easily beat the other games of the series by far (already above 3M, surely around 4M?). For now, I don't see KH3 doing a lot more than the previous one. The story seems so complicated and impossible to understand for new players, that I'm not sure it can expand its players base. And it doesn't have that much hype for now either...

So far, I'll go with GoW. Even with One and Switch.

I agree. This GOW has been huge and i don't see hype or sales for KH3 being as high.

He knows something, guys. I smell crow bait!

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

I think KH3 on PS4 alone will outsell GOW simply because of Japan.

I really don't think it will.

It's been a long time since KH2. They lost their momentum a long time ago.

Also, it's gonna sell on Xbox about as much as FF does. Wich is not very much (about 1/5th).

Kingdom Hearts 1.5+2.5 & 2.8, collections that were released after FF XV (Xbox One at 1.07m), are outselling it 1.29m and 1.09m (VGC numbers, but the series went from 22 million shipped to 24m in 2017 via SE Press site), respectively. 1.5+2.5 is a rerelease of its PS3 versions that also sold over 1.25m (VGC numbers), so its not a good look for FF XV (Xbox) at all. Plus, KH has never outsold FF, so those KH3 Xbox numbers, I can only see it at ~500k LTD. That's pocket change to SE.

Before I say what I'm going to say... Are you comparing GoW with handheld games or the GoW series)? Need an answer before I continue.

The story is complicated and impossible ehgegdkdgkdj? That's irrelevant. KH3 Co-director Tai Yasue stated in 2016 after E3 that Xbox gamers (and newcomers) can play KH3 just for the gameplay and Disney worlds. Plus, every relevant KH game has explained the past games in the character journal

Also, if they care about story then they can buy KH 1.5+2.5 & 2.8 on PS4 as Tetsuya Nomura planned in 2012 when he decided to create KH3 to unite the scattered games onto one platform so fans can play the story before KH3. That's called recultivation.

Anyway, KH3 will not outsell GoW as a PS4 exclusive. I see up it to 5 million max on PS4. Xbox One version is pocket change (around ~500k LTD) so its not a difference maker to even mention regardless.

I didn't mean it like that.

I meant it won't be surprising if the Xbox version sells the equivalent of 1/5th of what the PS4 version does.

What do you mean about GoW handheld or series? I'm talking about the latest GoW (4 if you want), the point of the thread, which will become very quickly the best selling GoW ever.

About KH3 story, what the devs say to sell their game is pretty much irrelevant. You can play Shenmue 3 without playing the previous ones, but it sure helps to motivate you to buy the game if you're already invested in the series. Same thing with FFX-2, the sequels of FF13 or others. If you need to play a compilation of what... 3, 4, 5 games? in order to understand the story fully, it's less appealing. The gameplay would need to be awesome to attract new players. For now, the game release is taking way too long, a lot of other great games are releasing regularly, there is no mainstream hype about this one... I don't see what would motivate people who never tried KH to try to get in the series with this one.

Well, they have maybe a couple more years *cough* to try to build hype around it and prove me wrong...

KH hasn't sold that well since KH2. Is the reason for declining sales simply because they didn't shove a number on the end of the name?

KH3 may be the best selling game in the series, but I don't see it beating GoW.

Pretty much.

KH is one of those series that I just don't get excited over at all. I played the first and never touched the series again. Happy for anybody who enjoys it, though.

Of course not.
